The Revolution is Near

A Slam Poetry Tribute

Marli
While looking through a spyglass
I had a revelation
The world is full of sickness
That was my connotation
So I stepped back,
Reevaluated the situation
And saw that what we needed
Was just the right medication
Music is the key
It will bring you mind elation
It will make you think
Make you feel
With its very creation
Once upon a time
It was my forefather's education
To sing slave songs
As a form of documentation
Of illustration
Of the hardships they faced
With discrimination
Let's gather the music
And begin a collaboration
I'm saying some Bob Marley
Some Marvin Gaye
To start the compilation
Have you heard of the Shins?
Their music is pure inspiration
I don't just want to be a group
I want to be a generation
Of celebration
And admiration
Of the music
Let's be remembered
Let's start this realization
Are you hearing me?
Or is my message lost in this translation?
As my poem winds down
I ask for you imitation
Let's start a medicated music wave
Now here's your invitation

excellent ;) my only comment is that I think music / poetry itself is not an end, but a means to change. The change is when the oppressors lose their seats, the lobbyists lose their voice, and the factories begin turning out the things we need, not just toys.
