The Right Straightening Products for 4a, Naturally Thick, Curly Hair

Stacey Super
It has been over two years since I did the big chop and got rid of my relaxed hair. It all began after my pregnancy when I noticed how cute my natural texture was at the roots. I thought "wow how wonderful would it be to just wear my hair as it is and when I want to straighten my hair I will with a blow dryer." Not! Let me tell you that my journey to straight hair in the south is limited to non humid days, plenty of down time (which a mother of an active toddler does not have much of) patience and the right products and tools.

After spending too much money on various hair products and cheap flat irons, I have found the right combo that will give me the results I am after. First, I wash my hair with a moisturizing shampoo such as Carol's Daughter Tui Herbal Shampoo, it has a great sent. Then I condition my hair with Ion's Moisturizing Treatment and let it stay in for the recommended time. I usually do not sit under a bonnet dryer but I do use a plastic cap. Personally, I let the conditioner sit in my hair for twenty minutes, then I rinse. Here is where the fun begins. While my hair is soaking wet, I apply Phytodefrisant Botanical Relaxing Balm. I pour a quarter sizes into the palm of my hair and distribute from the roots to the ends of my hair.

Next, I use a wide toothed comb and comb through my hair. Then I put a dime size amount of the same product into my hair and focus on the back of my hair, which is the frizziest. Immediately after I blow dry my hair with Conair's Ion Hair dryer on medium setting. While blow-drying my hair I use a boar bristle brush and move down the hair slowly.

Once my hair is dry, I then move on to using my flat iron, which is the Maxiglide. Two years ago I needed a flat iron for thick 4a hair, so the infomercial and thought that this was a good purchase. My opinion of the Maxiglide is that it works wonderfully with Phyto and Phyotspecific products but not great alone. I heat the Maxiglide to the number 3 setting (any higher and I am killing my hair) and when the blue light is done flashing it is ready to go. I take a small section of my thick hair, apply a finger tip amount of Phyotspecific Beauty Styling Cream to the section, glide the flat iron through the hair section once, and then repeat slowly. The result is straight hair!

What I love about the Phytodefrisant Botanical relaxing Balm is that I can wear my hair in its naturally thick curly state with the product and it will not look like a Jeri Curl. If you decide to try Phytodefrisant out by the 5.9 oz because you get more uses out of it for the cost.
