These teams are great both losing less 20 games already and on the verge for the World Series with the two best records in the MLB so far. Both are also teams we will see playing like this into the future.
The Red Sox are the get down dirty play your hearts out kind of team. They have players coming out each day that won't stop running, hitting, fielding, or pitching great until they complete the ultimate team goal, for the second time this century. Kevin Youkilis, a great surprise this season, is on a 21 game hit streak. Nine of those games are also multi-hit days. I don't see him slowing done anytime soon even after rounding the base after his inside the parker. Then there is Josh Beckett who just came off the DL to get his eighth straight win. He's been on fire lately and will keep the AC turned off for a long time now that he has gotten use to American League play. Then there is the unexpected play of Okajima and Mike Lowell. When we brought Okey-Dokey to Boston we were just thinking him as a fellow player for Dice-K so he won't feel so alone. But, he has been much more than that, taking Timlin's place and leading in Hold and topping the AL in second with 10. And Mike Lowell leads the Sox right now with 9 homeruns and 39 RBIs. He has been a real powerhouse and I hope he can keep it up too. Then you have the 7-2 Dice-K with a 8.6 K/9 and 64 strikeouts this season. He's is doing better than Johan Santana who is suppose to be a winning and strikeout legend this season. And even Julio Lugo is getting in on the mix. Although his batting may not be at its best he surely has changed the Sox's red light to green light. He has 15 steal in which 0 has he been caught.
The Mets is the team that is exactly like the Red Sox yet they are in the National League. Which is a relief, believe me if they were in the AL we would have a problem. They too have been playing their hearts out and none of their players have hot cold months, hint hint A-Rod. You have Jose Reyes who is stealing more bases than old western criminals. And then there is the great hitting Paul Lo Duca who is batting .322. And then Carlos Beltran is ripping the ball to shreds with his 8 homeruns and 34 RBIs. For pitching, you can't for get names like Oliver Perez, Maine, Billy Wagner, and many others. Oliver, who has a despicable season last year is on a roll with 6 wins already and has an 8.62 K/9 with 61 strikeouts this season. Oh, and did I forget to mention his 2.69 ERA. And though I didn't mention his name earlier you can't forget the aging but great Tom Glavine. He is 5-2 and still kicking it with the players of tomorrow. This team may be 4.5 games up on the Braves but I have a feeling the best the Braves will do this season is take the Wild Card. Right now the Mets don't look like they will be stopped I just hope the World Series won't end up like the one back in 1986.
The Mets are the new sheriff in town in New York and not even Pecos Bill could wrestle this tornado. It's great to be back on top. As, the fall of the Yankees continues and the rise of the Red Sox and Mets continues. And don't forget those other teams like the Brewers, Indians, Angels, Braves, and both the Diamondbacks and Dodgers.
