"The Road to Recovery" is a special edition of the Cleveland Daily Banner that will be out on Friday, May 27, 2011. It will be released that day, 30 days after the tornadoes hit and took the lives of 9 of our fellow human beings.
Bradley County changed forever on April 27, 2011. The tornadoes that tore through didn't care if you had a big house or a little house. The tornadoes didn't care if you owned your home or if you rented. The tornadoes didn't care if you had a new car or an old one. The tornadoes didn't care if you were young, old, male or female. They just didn't care at all.
When the dust settled and the horrific scenes that played out were exposed for the world to see, the realty set in. Even if your home and your property was spared, you know someone who wasn't so lucky.
"The Road to Recovery" is a keepsake edition of the Cleveland Daily Banner, the local newspaper. The cost of this keepsake is a mere $1. That's all, just one dollar bill. The money collected will go to the Cleveland-Bradley Disaster Relief Fund. The fund is in place to help residents of our county that need help.
Just one dollar, four quarters or even 100 pennies, that's all it costs to buy this special edition that will serve as a reminder of what the people of Bradley County went through on that horrible day. It will also provide updates and human interest stories. There will be no paid advertisers in this special edition, per the Cleveland Daily Banner.
The day that the trees were uprooted and fell on homes far and wide. The day that pieces of roofing material wound up miles and miles from where he should have been. The day that live electric wires were a real threat to residents and volunteers alike. The day that neighbors helped neighbors as well as strangers. The day that chain saws and 4-wheelers were blessings to see. That day that over 285 homes were totally destroyed and more than 300 more homes were damaged. The day that 9 people lost their lives -April 27, 2011.
"The Road to Recovery" can be purchased at the following locations: The Bank of Cleveland, Southern Heritage Bank, United Community Bank, Athens Federal Bank, Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union, Andrew Johnson Bank, Bowater Credit Union and the United Way of Bradley County. Although this special edition only costs one dollar, please feel free to give more if you are able.
Bowater Newsprint in Calhoun, Tennessee is donating all of the newsprint for this special edition. It will be 32 pages long and although it surely will bring tears to many eyes, it is something the residents of Bradley County, Tennessee, need. We need to never forget what happened that day. We need to never forget the people who were lost. We need to do what we can to help. And we need to spend a dollar to buy "The Road to Recovery", and then we need to find someone who lost everything and give that person a hug and let them know we have not forgotten them.
