The Rock to Watch Out For: Fall 2009

My Top Five New Rock Albums Coming Out This Fall

Grant Bracken
The year 2009 has been a decent one for all the flavors of rock you might savor. The year is not over yet and many bands still have new tracks to lay down. There are lots of new releases coming out in the fall of 2009. There are new albums from old favorites like Pearl Jam and Everclear. There are new tracks from bands that are soon becoming old favorites. This is my own personal top five list of the Rock albums coming out in the fall.

5) In A Different Light by Everclear (Comes out sometime in October)

Now I will be the first to admit that Everclear has had some bumps in the road in recent years and a part of me still really misses the old band. The new guys that play with old front man Art Alexakis are all really talented but something has been missing since the early part of this decade. That being said I am pretty excited about this album because it's an all-acoustic collection of old songs and some new pieces. Sometimes trying something new really revitalizes a band and reinvents their sound and I am hoping this album will do just that for Everclear.

4) Eros by Deftones (Comes out sometime in October)

Its possible this album may not even see the light of day but I am holding out hope. Ever since the bassist for the Deftones was in a terrible car accident the release for this album keeps getting pushed back. It still might come out in October so I am putting it on my list. I am a big Deftones fan and the buzz from this album seems pretty good. It has been described by vocalist Chino Moreno in an interview with Kerrang magazine as weird, refreshing and up-tempo. It sounds like a great mixture to me; lets just hope we all get to hear it.

3) Today by OneRepublic (Comes out in early September)

There is no set release date for this bands sophomore album but I am hoping it's coming soon. I was a big fan of their first album and think that there is a lot of potential there. Not much has been said about this new album but I heard "All The Right Moves" one of the new tracks and I really liked it. I think this band has all the potential of getting even better. This album will be a clear signs of things and I think most will be pleased.

2) The Resistance by Muse (Releases September 14th)

For some folks there first real listen to English rockers Muse was on the Twilight soundtrack with there hit Supermassive Black Hole. The band has been around for a lot longer than that making great music. If you liked their work on Twilight than most likely you will love what they have worked out for their fifth studio album that is going to be more of electronic feel to it overall. I am very excited to see what comes next from this under-rated band.

1) Cosmic Egg by Wolfmother (Releases October 13th)
www.wolfmother.com

I tend not to really like hard rock or metal, but that being said for some reason I love Wolfmother. I am not the only one. Many folks are waiting with anticipation for the bands second major album. We have not heard much from them since 2005 except for the song "Pleased to Meet You" which was arguably the best part of the movie Spiderman 3. That might have a lot to do with the band loosing some members and having some in fighting. Maybe the wait has made me all the more excited and a little biased but I think this album will be the one to rock out with the most this coming fall.
