The Role Diet Can Play in Preventing Acne

Linda M. McCloud

No, acne is not something that only teenagers have to dread. Many adults have to deal with acne on a daily basis. Some women deal with acne during their monthly cycles. Then there are the adults that will have an acne breakout every time they eat a piece of chocolate. Do you wonder what these people would think if they learn that their diet could help prevent these small bouts or daily bouts of acne?

Yes, some researchers and nutritionists believe that there are foods that can prevent acne breakouts, just as some foods can cause them. What are these foods?

Foods Containing Vitamin A

Foods that contain vitamin A, such as salmon, carrots, spinach and broccoli can help in the fight against acne. The reason why is that vitamin A can help regulate the way the skin produces oil. If it keeps the skin from producing too much oil, then fewer breakouts will occur.

Zinc

Zinc can be found in foods such as turkey, almonds, and Brazil nuts. It can help calm the skin and help stop the growth of P. acnes which causes acne breakouts.

Vitamins C and E

Both vitamins C and E works together. They help to calm the skin. Vitamin C can be found in foods such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits and tomatoes. Vitamin E can be found in sweet potatoes, broccoli and sunflower seeds.

Selenium

Selenium can protect the skin from free radical damage. This can be found in foods such as tuna, salmon, garlic, eggs and brown rice.

Water

Water is water. It is what we need to drink to stay hydrated. It is good for our skin because it keeps it hydrated and can it from becoming dry. It also flushes out toxins from that can cause numerous problems.

Yes, we may actually be able to prevent acne and other skin problems by eating the right foods. We may even feel better in the process.
