Many individuals are into one weight loss program or the other. A lot of us want to develop a trim figure simply because we want to look attractive, while others are trying to lose weight for health reasons. And while almost all of those who try to lose weight succeed in doing so, the real challenge is in keeping the weigh off. More often than not, we regain the weight we have lost only in a matter of days. This is usually because the goal of maintaining a specific weight is more than just a physical challenge, it is psychological as well.
A lot of people, especially women, use food as a source of comfort. They eat when they are stressed, bored, sad, or angry. Some people even eat when they are extremely happy. This habit of using food as an outlet for our emotions must first be addressed for us to realistically achieve our ideal weight. Psychology has indeed become an effective complement of the most effective weight loss programs worldwide. This is because studies have shown that once an individual's deepest emotional baggage has been taken care of, it becomes a lot easier for that person to shake off excess weight and keep it off.
Letting go of repressed emotions makes one feel lighter, more confident and more able to control cravings for food. This also helps us avoid the emotional trap of depression and weight gain. When we are depressed, we tend to consume more food and take less notice of the kind of food that we eat. This causes weight gain, which in turn brings us deeper into depression.
Consulting a psychologist to aid us in handling our emotions properly is very important in making sure that we reap the benefits of the weight loss program that we are practicing. Time and time again it has been proven that training the body to lose weight without training the mind is useless. Therefore one must strive towards a balanced psyche first before you can even hope to reach your ideal weight.
