The New Room

They may be L.A. based, but their sound is sure to travel miles and without hesitation. The New Room brings a delightful nostalgia to modern music with songs such as Pretty Little Things. The song opens with what seems to be a punk riff that segues flawlessly into a tranquil maturity, never losing its edge. The vocals are reminiscent of a brilliant era of music, but crooner Anthony blends a classic vocal with the modern language. Having been compared to more goth type bands, there is a definate punk flavor. A listener may make a comparison to D.I. and Social Distortion, when hearing how the singer used the lyrics to tell a story. The music is not as gritty as Social Distortion, but the words in the music drive the band as with the bands mentioned. This is a rare and important quality in a band and can go unrecognized by the masses at first, but not to the thinking, feeling fan.

Undying Joy Division and Bowie fans can be harsh and judgmental on any new bands that claim these legends as an influence, yet seem to homage such important artists with reproductions of ideas and mediocre copies. Of these charges The New Room has been cleared. The influences have only influenced them, not provided a cheat sheet for songs. They have a familiar sound without being redundant, which will work in their favor. The lyrics are thoughtful without being pathetic or whiny which a great deal of bands can make a mistake with. A listener wants to know the artist can relate, they certainly don't want to hear them complain.

With the release of their debut full length CD "Only World We Know" the band has gained momentum and has critics asking such questions as, "Why are these guys not famous" -Drew Lyons

This statement mirrors the opinion of many and will be short lived as the dedication to touring and making "real" music that people can listen to The New Room will gain their notoriety soon enough. Hidden gems become valuable and greatly sought after once discovered and The New Room is the diamond in the rough; but not for long. The band is tight and knows what they are doing to bring it down to the basics, and live would be an experience.

The New Room is not a tired sound and there is no "easy listening" here. They are real, they are true and catch a show while you can still get tickets as they have recently been playing music festivals in Las Vegas and Hollywood. This is only the start of something bigger and better and before we know it, poof, no chance in hell getting a ticket. So if you get the opportunity, open the door and walk right on it to see The New Room!
