A very interesting and unique event will soon be featured at the Mid-Continent Public Library at the Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence, Missouri.

If you've had a curiosity of how America became a nation, this might address some of your unanswered questions.


WHAT: Roots of a Nation Event

WHEN: July 9 through August 21, 2011

HIGHLIGHTS:

See artifacts from the Claude and Inez Harkins Freedom Collection.

They will include documents and artwork up until the Revolutionary War.

Check out a miniature portrait of George Washington by Edward Savage.

Don't forget to view the oval locket that contains a lock of George Washington's hair.

You will be riveted to a 13-star flag from an American gunboat.

And what about an early engraving of Thomas Jefferson's draft of the Declaration of Independence?

There will be so much more that will intrigue you.

This educational event is a collaborative effort of the Mid-Continent Library and The Missouri Society Sons of the Revolution. It is the first time that this collection will be exhibited in the Midwest.

    A locket with George Washington's hair? Really? That's pretty crazy. I thought everything like that would be locked away in the Smithsonian.
