The Rose Has Wilted on the Bachelor

I've watched several seasons of, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette and considered myself a fan. While the premise of the show, find love in a matter of months, has always had it's skeptics, I thought it was possible to fall in love in such a setting. Despite the majority of the relationships not working out, I stuck with the show, because the idea is nice and romantic. Who doesn't want to find love?

The Brad Womack season finale was hard to watch. He choose neither lady and my heart went out to DeAnna. It was awful to watch DeAnna listen to Brad break her heart. Like many, I thought Womack was a jerk for what he did, but he did what he thought was right and saved the ladies further heartache.

When Jason, this seasons Bachelor, was rejected by DeAnna, my heart also went out to him. He was my favorite and I thought the two made a nice couple. I was happy for him when he got the chance to be the new bachelor.

I watched during the season, growing fond of Jason's persona. I hoped the ending to this season would bring him happiness and maybe it will, but I no longer care about that. I watched last night as Jason got down on his knee and proposed to Melissa. I watched her jump for joy and happily accept. Then, in what I can only describe as one of the most cruel things I've ever seen, Jason appeared to the After the Final Rose show and declared he no longer felt the same about Melissa.

I don't fault Jason for his changing feelings, that's happened repeatedly during the shows existence. What I can't believe is he'd wait to bring Melissa on television to tell her this devastating news. Didn't he think she deserved to have her world shattered in private, with just the two of them?

I'm frankly disgusted at ABC for airing that part of the show. They emptied the studio, big deal. Jason should've had the decency to tell Melissa before the show. This is a sad commentary on what now, passes as entertaining. To humiliate someone while sticking a camera in their face should not be an attempted ratings grabber. Can't we do better then this?

Hey, for next years The Bachelor, how about we let the woman who isn't chosen kick the guy between the legs at the end, then tape his painful expression. That should get you some more viewers to replace the one you've now lost.
