So timid and unsure was its vine
At the beginning it relied on a trellis for security
But now trellis and rose need each other to shine
When I look at the trellis with the yellow rose attached
I forget that once they stood alone
Together they now add beauty and grace to my yard
Forged in strength they have flourished and grown
How similar we are to the rose and trellis
At times we are either strong or weak
We rely on each other to stand tall and brave
Confidence and hope from each other we seek
It's hard to remember when we became one
When did our lives meld so completely?
So difficult to recall what it was like on our own
When did our lives fit together so neatly?
The thing about the rose and trellis
If one overtakes the other, they both might fall apart or die
They need to prune back the dead blooms and vines
So both of their dreams can still reach toward the sky
