The Royal McGregor is a bar and restaurant situated on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland. Serving traditional homemade Scottish food at reasonable prices, The Royal McGregor is a popular favorite among locals and tourists alike.

The Royal McGregor is open 7 days a week from 10 am to 10 pm and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as a Kids' Menu.

Breakfast Menu

If you're feeling hungry for some late morning breakfast or brunch before you start your day, The Royal McGregor's Breakfast Menu will surely keep you satisfied with its good-sized portions at fair prices.

If this is your first Scottish breakfast, try the Traditional Breakfast, which includes sausage, egg, bacon, black pudding, haggis, mushrooms, tomato, tattie scone, beans, toast, and coffee or tea. All of this can be purchased for less than 7 pounds.

For smaller stomaches, try a sweet and simple scrambled egg on toast with fruit juice, tea, or coffee. Or try out the French toast with Canadian maple syrup. For a healthier choice, go for the muesli with banana and honey, toast, yogurt, fruit juice, and tea or coffee. There is also the porridge option, with banana, honey, toast, yogurt, fruit juice, and tea or coffee.

Main Menu

For lunch or dinner, check out The Royal McGregor's Main Menu for traditional, homemade Scottish dishes.

Starters include everything from cullen skink (traditional Scottish soup made with smoked haddock and potatoes), haggis fritters with cranberry sauce, steamed mussels in white wine sauce, and smoked salmon. There are also vegetarian options, such as the soup of the day or goats' cheese.

For a main course, try out a juicy steak straight from the grill with either pepper, whisky, or blue cheese sauce. There are also a variety of burgers that you can try, including bacon cheese burger and cajun and BBQ burger.

For dishes with a little more culture, try the tower of haggis, neeps, and tatties. Or, if you're feeling for beef, go for the steak and ale pie, which consists of Scotch beef with gravy and puff pastry.

There are other classics available, like the always delicious fish and chips, large bowl of mussels, or pork medallions. You can also try something a little special, like salmon fettuccine, or lamb casserole.

Salad options include chicken and bacon caesar, or warm goats' cheese with beetroot and rocket.

Baguette lovers will be happy to know that The Royal McGregor also serves warm baguettes up to 5pm on a daily basis.

With a large variety of sides and desserts, like crannachan (a traditional Scottish dessert with mixed berries, whipped cream, and whisky), and sticky toffee pudding, you will wish your stomach were bigger so you could eat more.

Kids' Menu

There are a variety of non-alcoholic foods suitable for children. These dishes include sausages, burgers, and wraps. These dishes all include either mashed potatoes or French fries, along with beans or peas. The pasta of the day also comes with garlic bread.
