The Sadness That Continues to Plague Anna Nicole Smith

I resisted weighing in on the sad and somewhat pathetic story that the death of Anna Nicole Smith has become, but I simply can't let it go another day without addressing what I feel is the most tragic result of all, an innocent 5 month old girl now without her mother. This poor little girl, who now seems to have everyone but me claiming to be her father will be left with no real memory of her mother to call her own, but as she gets older will be forced read and hear accounts from others that most likely will not be painting her late mother in a very favorable light.

Compared by some, to the late Marilyn Monroe, another tragic figure in death has made the passing of Anna Nicole Smith a media spectacle to the point that the judge overseeing who has the right to her body for burial has completely lost control of the proceedings, seemingly oblivious to the fact that her body, now dead two weeks, continues to deteriorate to the point that no open casket viewing will be possible. To me that is secondary to the fact that even in death Smith's dignity has been stripped from her in a tasteless fashion by several "players" whose motivations are clearly guided by the excessive need to be in the media spotlight .

It is difficult to pinpoint what type of "celebrity" Anna Nicole was, but it is certainly no secret what landed her any fame at all was two fold, a Playboy centerfold spread in 1993, and then of course her marriage at age 28 to a 90-year-old oil executive that led to a viscous battle for his estate that will continue to go on long after her recent death at age 39. One can only hope that this is not part of any of the motivations behind the battle for her remains, I mean, could it be possible that that the person that is made responsible for her remains takes up her fight for her late husbands money? One would hope not.

She was an exotic dancer, a glamorous cover girl, appeared on television and in movies, but only seemed to find genuine fame as a celebrity spokesperson, which just prior to her death became the subject of controversy as well.

Some will argue that Smith brought many, if not all or most of her problem upon herself, but sadly she was the target of people throwing things in her direction to see what would stick, and either she wasn't clever enough to fend off these attacks, or advice to her became "any publicity is good publicity", personally, I think it is a little of both.

She didn't even get to fully enjoy the birth of her daughter, as it came at the same time she was dealing with the sudden and tragic death of her son. Details of his death filled the papers and airwaves for weeks, and now the same thing is happening to Smith as even more messy details about her personal life are surfacing, and the question becomes, is this really news? Probably not, but we all are reading or listening to every update, and every update seems to rob Smith of any dignity she may have left at all, including the fact that her death is now being blamed on a "toxic cocktail" of prescription drugs.

It is so sad to think that if all these people fighting over her remains now were looking out for half as well during her life, she might still be with us, and being a good mother to her daughter, whoever the father turns out to be. Shame on all those that don't see that they share a bit of the blame that resulted in her sadness and demise, you know who you are, and you will have your turn to explain soon enough to someone besides a judge seemingly incapable of making a decision on letting Anna Nicole Smith being laid to rest, whether it is the Bahamas or California, near her idol Marilyn Monroe, as was her desire.

My hope is that someone close to this situation will put her little girl first, and put tin the time that will be necessary to prepare her for what she will be hearing about her mother years from now.
