Go-karts are finally starting to come into their own, although mostly focused on novices in paved track or off-road go-kart racing. Go-karts are built to endure years of use and abuse and are simply impeccable in performance, style, and overall maintenance.
Loads of vehicles, such as ATVs, mopeds, mini bikes and dirt bikes, are made for fun. But if you wish to find excitement on four wheels, the mopeds and mini bikes can be forgotten. All terrain vehicles made for traveling off-road should be taken off the list, as well. Basically, you will be left with go-karts. If you wish to race like the big boys with powerful engines and relative safety, go-karts are definitely to go.
Whether you are in it for affordable racing fun or have hopes to become a professional racer one day, go-karting is the ideal way to start. A lot of NASCAR drivers started their careers by racing go-karts during their tender childhood years.
For years, carts have been on the market, but they have only started to become popular recently. Back in the day, there were very limited places to find cars, like the family fun center or an amusement park. They used to only have two speeds, slow and slower. And although they were incredibly safe, they only went up to 5mph, so that's not saying much.
But even at that incredibly slow speed, they were fun. Imagine how fun the go-karts of today are, with its faster speeds and track selections that are bigger and better. Plus, go-cart tracks have flourished and can be found practically anywhere nowadays. Has this made go-karting more dangerous, though?
Back in the day, they were so slow; no one even had to wear helmets. But with today's speeds, helmets are a must, even on kiddy tracks. Don't get scared, however; they are still incredibly safe and you always have control on how fast you wish to go.
Because of this, you have control on how much danger you put yourself in when in a go-kart. You get to decide everything, from which go-kart to purchase to which safety equipment to use to the caution you take on track to your ultimate safety level. The faster you go, the higher the chances of you sustaining a potential injury. So always take safety precautions.
In general, carting is quite safe if you follow the basic rules:
- Always wear a helmet to prevent any head injuries in the event of a crash.
- Always fasten your safety harness to prevent being thrown our in the event of a roll.
- Always race in speeds that you are comfortable in. If you do not like speed, stay in lower level racing groups.
Since all go-carts nowadays come with roll bars that rise above the head of the driver, you are pretty safe if you end up losing control and flipping your cart over. A lot of drivers get cocky and think this will never happen to them, but other racers may not be as awesome, so it is smart that these side bars are there for protection.
With so many precautions, no one can really get seriously injured in go-karting. Although there is always the slight possibility, it is very limited, most of all with such few safety rules. Go-karts are safe; don't worry too much.
