The Saint Patrick's Day Parade: New York City 2011
March 17, 2011 the 250th Anniversary of the St. Patrick's Day Parade
Many people believe that St. Patrick was born on March 17Th actually his birth date is unknown; the fact is that he died on March 17Th.
The first New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade occurred on March 17, 1762 and this year marks the 250Th Anniversary of the parade.
The Paddy's Day Parade is one of the few parades in New York where no vehicles or floats are allowed. There are plenty of marching bands playing a variety of traditional Irish tunes and American patriotic songs. The pipers abound, the flags are plentiful and the uniforms are amazing.
The 165Th Infantry Regiment (New York 69Th Fighting Irish) leads this wonderful event up Fifth Avenue.
The Parade kicks off at 11:00 am at 44Th Street, makes its way up Fifth Avenue past St. Patrick's Cathedral at 50Th and ends at 86Th Street. The parade is a fun event for marchers and spectators alike and all are welcome.
The St. Patrick's Day Parade is a grand and fun filled event. There are contingents of the NYPD proudly marching and the on duty Finest are out in force ensuring public safety.
The weather in New York on March 17Th can vary greatly so you do want to check the report and dress appropriately; don't forget to wear your green.
It is a great, great day! Hope to see you at the parade.
