The Sansa 2 Gigabyte Red MP3 Player - a Review

Derek Odom
I recently ruined my old thumb-style MP3 player, and therefore was in the market for a new one. I was going to just replace the old unit with another MP3 player that was similar, until I found the Sansa at the local Radio Shack. Once I had this little bugger in my hands, it was as good as sold.

Durable and Designed Well

This small red Sansa is very well constructed, with nothing sticking out to poke or snag things. It's a simple rectangle, and the buttons are on its face, similar to an iPod. It has a clip on the back of it, so you can hook it on your belt, on your shirt, or wherever else is handy. It also has a "hold" feature, which allows the user to put the Sansa in their pocket or hooked-on somewhere without worrying about the song changing, or the power randomly going off because it got bumped. That gets very annoying.

Well Constructed and Smooth Buttons

One of my favorite things about the little red Sansa is that the buttons don't rattle or feel cheap. When you push one, the desired action actually takes place, with no resistance or fuss from the machine whatsoever. I also enjoy the placement of them, and how they feel. It is very easy to change songs or volume levels without even looking at the Sansa. There is nothing too complicated, either; just straight-forward, quality fun.

Excellent Screen and Back Light

I thought, looking at it in the store, that the screen was going to pose some issues, because it looks pretty darn small. Boy was I was wrong! The words and information can be clearly seen, day or night. It even has brightness adjustments so you can fine-tune the screen to suit your needs. The Sansa also allows users to adjust how long the screen stays lit each time a button is pressed, so the battery can last longer if desired.

User Friendly Song Transfers

The last couple MP3 players I had would sometimes freeze up or lose information when hooked to the USB port of the computer. This one consistently delivers a strong performance, and it hasn't frozen or locked up on me once. Simply open the window for the Sansa, and drop songs into it. It really does not get much easier or hassle-free.
