The Saturn Ion - The Best Car I've Ever Owned

Once I owned a beautiful blue 2005 Saturn Ion. It was a fantastic little car and I utterly loved it. Was it unpretentious? Yes. Was it modest? Yes. Did it scream affordability? Yes. It blended right in with all the other cars on the highway in between my small hometown and my college in a larger city an hour away. It was not flashy. It was, however, reliable.

When this little car was purchased, it was in perfect used condition with only 12 thousand miles on it. It didn't guzzle gas, everything functioned and it was clean and shiny. I fed it gas, gave it regular maintenance when it needed it and it behaved admirably. I never once had a single issue with it during the time that I had it.

Its seats were comfortable and I could see easily out all the windows and the radio provided me with endless button pushing entertainment which annoyed all my passengers to no end. It could play CDs too, but I never carried them with me. I was content with my button pushing.

What I think I loved best was the heater. I was living in Wisconsin that year and it was winter. My husband and I had two cars at the time and the other one heated up only with the help of freeway speeds and heat coming in from the engine through the open vents. In other words, it was a very cold ride back and forth to school in January. Unfortunately, that was the car I normally drove. When rush hour traffic backed up to 5 miles an hour on the snowy highway, we'll just say that I was buried under a blanket while driving and couldn't feel my feet.

My love for the Saturn became unbounded. For starters, it was my favorite color. And did I mention it was warm? It also loyally drove me cross country and over mountains without even a hiccup. It wasn't my first experience with a Saturn, but it was definitely the best. That was a good little car.
