This horror/thriller film literally scared "the hell out of 1973 theater viewers" into going back to church and renewing their religious vows at this particular time in history! "The Exorcist" psychological/horror movie and or motion picture film still has the highest priority money making rating of any demonic movie in history, because of this un-believable fact based true story at a revenue of over 512 million dollars since the award winning thriller 1975 Steven Spielberg director film called "Jaws".

Why was "The Exorcist" 1973 horror movie so scary? Back then filmmakers did not have digital computer graphics to make film scenes look fake or depend on any modern day digital electronic devices depicted on theater big screens or TV?

Most paid theater film viewers were simply, "scared" amazed and astonished at the way this little beautiful 13 year old girl character called Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair) completely TURNED HER HEAD AROUND ironically hearing the bones "Crack at the same time" and spit out a whole entire can of pea soup during her horrible bed-side priest exorcism!

Whenever little innocent female blond haired and lovable Regan started "sexually vagina screwing herself with the Jesus crucifix in her very own up-stairs bed making it jump up and down" 1973 theater film viewers were honestly scared to death! They could not believe their eyes of what they are seeing on this big-screen theater!

This particular historical movie scene was not sexual in anyway, you could honestly feel the pain and hurt that she was feeling at the time, because her professional actress mom, Chris MacNeil (Ellen Bursytn) slowly and dramatically told these two church priest what was going on in this young child's life after she urinated during one of her usual weekly publicity parties.

(Most 1973 film viewing audiences during this particular time started to scream, cry, run to the bathroom and vomit their popcorn/candy/hot-dogs, jump up and down in the theater regarding this long-time remembered movie event/incident which hardly no one will ever forget if they were in the theater at this time of movie viewing.

Even beautiful, well bodily figured for her age, excellent facial smile and gorgeous (without muscles) nowadays actress Linda Denise Blair (born January 22, 1959) still remembers this prestigious and hard-working time in her life-time career as a thirteen year old actress regarding the film called "The Exorcist", which unfortunately left her as a type cast character which most Hollywood producers and fans will always remember).

Fortunately for me? I was in the theater at this time in history of 1973! Here in Marietta, Ga. Metro-Atlanta. Sitting beside my 17 year old girl-friend at the time and she seemed to be afraid and or scared as I was during this horrific film at my tender teenage age of 18.

Simply because it seemed so real at the time. Meaning that Americans did not have access to a VCR or a digital DVD in the year of 1973, where they could watch movies on their home television sets or analyze computer often-times fake graphics or FX.

Unfortunately? Most modern digital 2010 film viewers can watch this historical movie on their TV or computer using a DVD now days and will mostly "laugh at the original 1973 FX" version especially teenagers and never realize the impact that it made for theater viewers back in the year 1973 and why it made so many people so sick and scared.

If they were in the theater audience to begin with regarding so many 1970's parents that still have this thought somewhere in the back of their of their mind(s) simply because it seemed "so real at the time in local theaters similar to the 1975 hit film called Jaws?"

"The Exorcist" 1973 horror released movie/film was originally directed by William Friedkin written on the same name 1971 novel called "The Exorcist" written by William Peter Blatty loosely based on the alleged exorcism of a young person named Robbie Mannheim (also known as Roland Doe, born in June 1, 1935) during his childhood events in the 1940's, here somewhere in America.

The usual film critics stated in 1973 that this film called "The Exorcist" was a joke and had absolutely no potential money-maker for success? Before it's theatrical release. Little did they know at this time in history how greatly of an impact it would have for theater viewers throughout the years, sending young and even old film viewers back to their churches and renewing their religious vows, simply because this film or movie called "The Exorcist" scared the hell out of them! especially young people in the ages of 16-21 years of age at this date and time.

A later-on horror 1980's film called "The Shining" starring famous actor Jack Nicholson, written by famous author Stephen King, eventually began to take shape regarding paranormal, psychological or ghost horror effects for big-screen theatrical viewers. Using at the time natural movie-making FX, with real people and material surroundings for better enjoyment and theater viewers and or audiences, similar to the hit 1973 film called "The Exorcist".
