The Scary Truth About Global Warming

Skyler Raine
Global warming is one of the most frightening environmental threats that the United States and other countries are greatly concerned over. Climate change is popularly known as global warming which is the final product of gases generated by manufacturing plants, deforestation and automobiles. An upsurge of these industrial and vehicular produced gases fenced in the Earth's surface causing extreme heat and health hazards to the environment and the people.

According to scientists, global warming has exceedingly altered the overall conditions of the Earth. Based on the report of more than 200 scientists who created and compiled the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment (ACIA) in the year 2004, the arctic countries which are composed of Finland, United States, Canada, Sweden, Iceland, Russian Federation, Norway and Denmark have become worse and have continuously experience major changes in climate change. The comparison of the pictures in the year 1979 and 2003 taken by satellite device presented that the arctic sea ice is becoming less thick. An approximate of 15 percent has been the decrease in sea ice after 14 years. Rise in the air temperature, coastal attrition and the ocean salinity are some of the results of global warming.

According to the news report of ecoEnquirer in 2006, local hunter in the area of Cold Bay, Alaska notified the authorities that polar bears have fell down due to unbearable heat. Weather analyst Sky McCloud announced that more than 15 degrees of temperature have amplified resulting to unpleasant condition of polar bears. Member of the University of Alaska's Wildlife Health and Comfort Department, Dr. Slander have the same opinion with McCloud. He stated that global warming may cause the annihilation of the polar bears.

Global warming brings about severe weather occurrences such as drought, powerful tropical storms, wildfires and excessive heat waves. Water scarcity and major food shortage are the forthcoming effects of global warming. The public should be drastically informed regarding the global effects of climate change. People residing in coastal regions are primarily exposed to danger due to powerful hurricanes. Glaciers melting will definitely lead the escalation of sea levels. Millions of animals will die due to gradual alterations in the ecosystems and major damages in their habitats.

People living near the arctic regions are certainly in grave danger. Communities in the coastal areas of Alaska and Iceland may die due to the melting of the permafrost. Moreover, scientists have predicted that the continuous changes in the temperature of the Earth may lead to emergence of new infectious diseases. During the General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology held in Canada last May 2007, the representative of Columbia University stated that new diseases may materialize due to atmospheric changes.
