Clothing at the Gymboree Outlets is not from original retail lines
Other retail companies sometimes sell clothing from their original store lines at outlet stores because it is overstock or because it has some sort of flaw. This is not the case with the Gymboree outlets. The clothing at the outlets was made specifically for the outlet and is usually a remake of lines that were popular from previous seasons. The tags on the clothing at the outlet still say "Gymboree" but they are different from the tags at a regular retail store. The outlet tags have a set of dots on either side of the Gymboree logo.
Some of the clothing at the outlet looks very similar to clothing that was included in the original line, but the outlet lines often include new color schemes and pieces, as well. Some people feel that the clothing from the outlet is not as durable or high quality as clothing from the retail store and for this reason, the resale value is not as good as it would be if you purchased the clothing at an actual retail store. I have mixed and matched clothing from outlet and retail lines and for the most part, I have been pleased with the quality. I have noticed that the knit shirts tend to run smaller and shrink easily, so if I purchase a knit shirt at the outlet store, I will usually but it a size bigger than I would at a regular Gymboree store and I never dry it in the dryer. They outlet items also tend to show wash wear more than items from regular Gymboree stores.
You cannot purchase items from the outlet online, but you can place phone orders at most stores. If you purchase an item at the outlet, it must be returned to an outlet store, and the return policy is 60 days for a full refund. After 60 days, a merchandise credit will be issued, and all sales are final after 180 days.
Price points at the Gymboree Outlet are lower than they are at regular Gymboree stores
Initial price points for items at the outlet are typically about 20% to 30% less than they are at a regular Gymboree store. For example, at the regular stores, jeans and pants typically range from $29.50 to $36.50. At the outlet, they are usually $19.99 to $24.99. Also, knit shirts are typically $12.50 to $19.50 at a regular Gymboree store and at the outlet, they are typically $9.99 to $14.99. Barrettes and other hair accessories are typically $6 at the regular stores and are usually $3.99 at the outlet.
Coupons and other promotions are not available at the Gymboree outlet
One of the major drawbacks of the outlet is that you cannot use percent off coupons there. You also cannot earn or redeem Gymbucks there. They also do not offer special sales and promotions such as the Circle of Friends sales, the Peel a Prize event, or the Red Hot Dot sale. They do participate in the Red Balloon sale, but I have found much better deals shopping during the Red Balloon sale at the regular retail stores. If you have a Gymboree Visa, you can get your 5% discount on purchases at the outlet.
Overall impressions
For the most part, I have found that I can find much better prices at regular Gymboree stores than I can at the outlet stores because I can use percent off coupons and earn and redeem Gymbucks. I have also found that my regular Gymboree store has a better selection of clearance items than the outlet store does. Although the clothing from the outlet lines looks similar upon purchase, I have found that some things, particularly knit items, do not hold up as well over time. They seem to be thinner, run smaller, and show wash wear.
I still do most of my shopping at the regular Gymboree stores, but I do like to buy things at the outlet if I missed a line when it was at the regular stores and I also mix pieces and accessories with regular store lines. The accessories are the best deal, in my opinion, because they are about half the price, but usually look exactly the same, and the quality is fine.

Post a CommentGymbucks will be redeemable at the outlets beginning Summer 2012.
The quality is slightly less at the outlet than at the retail store. I can feel and see the difference after tshirts are washed and dried. This does not stop me from shopping at the outlet at all. My son grows out of clothing so quickly anyways and with the low prices I pay there (clearance) it is worth it to sacrifice quality a little. Even reduced quality at Gymboree outlet is better than the quality of most other children's stores. I prefer that my son wear primarily Gymboree because I find that it is the cutest and best quality at reasonable prices. Note I never ever pay full price at either store.
I "discovered" Gymboree clothing in 2003 when my granddaughter was born.I have always enjoyed shopping for little girls clothing and Gymboree does have some of the very cutest around.Unfortunately, also some of the most expensive. When I shop ,I always go a Gymboree outlet store.i usually found the clothing to be well made.i also watch what I buy.I will not pay $25- $30 for a pair of capris, that she will most likely wear for one season.Ebay is probably the least expensive way to buy Gymboree clothing.I pay a fraction of what the stores charge. You may have to use different sellers to get a complete outfit, but still save lots of money, even with shipping costs.
I don't live near a Gymbo Outlet store, but I know I've gotten some outlet items new with tags from re-sellers on eBay before because of the dots on the tags.
The only thing I've noticed about them are the corduroy pants aren't nearly as thick as the ones in the regular retail store. Nearly all my daughter's cloths are Gymboree and it's a notable difference in thickness. They still look super cute and they tend to match really well with retail store lines, but when you compare the warmth of the retail pants to the outlet store, there's a big difference. Since we live in CA, it's not a big deal, but if I lived in a winter climate, I don't know that I'd be as happy with the outlet store corduroy quality. They just aren't very thick.
I dont know why it is, but I have bought several shirts at the retail store and every one of them have shrunk UP in the COLD wash! (I had two identical shirts; washed one (not dried) and compared to the other) Its been very frustrating. I buy them on clearance, one season up, so I cant takem them back but I have learned my lesson and will be washing everything as soon as I soon get it! I wish I could resist Gymboree but I cant! ;)
There have been a lot of changes at the outlet stores since this article was written a year and a half ago. Unfortunately, there's no way to edit the article :)
I think that the quality of the clothing is the same, I've purchased clothing there and I've given away the clothes after my daughter grew out of them. My friends can't believe that they are hand-me-downs because the stuff looks brand new. I know you CAN earn gymbucks at the outlets. I think that that started last year. You can't redeem them there but maybe that will change in the future.
I have only been unhappy with the quality of clothing once. After washing, the jacket and pants didn't match. I made a comment to the manager about it and she told me to bring them back. I didn't because I had paid less than $10 for the outfit. The clothes are very durable. And 99% of the time, anything spilled on it (including paint) comes out easily in the washer. (The only one that didn't was permanent marker. And I gotta admit that was my fault for allowing it to be used!)
You can earn Gymbucks at the Outlet stores AND if you are a Gymboree Reward Card Member, the coupons you receive via email can also be used at the outlets.
You are able to earn gymbucks at the outlets and use them in a regular store or online. Better than nothing%2C right%3F
I was able to earn gymbucks at the Gymboree outlet near us. They just won't let me redeem them at an outlet.
