The Scoop on Tidy Cats Litter for Small Spaces and Multiple Cats

Is There a Difference Between Generic Litter and the Tidy Cats Brand?

Audrey Brown
We've tried a handful of different brands and types of cat litters over the two years that we've had our cats. Some were so bad that we never tried them again. (I would highly recommend that you stay away from any litter that's essentially sand in a bag.) Some were average enough that we used them for a long time, but were still bothered by the odor of the litter box. We decided to spring for Tidy Cats brand litter for "Small Spaces" and also for, "Multiple Cats". (You can get one litter built for both scenarios.)

The litter was about a dollar more than the more generic brands and even about a dollar more Tidy Cats basic litter with no qualifiers. But the difference that it makes is hugely significant, and well worth the extra dollar. If you live in an apartment, especially something like a loft or a one-bedroom, this brand of cat litter is well worth the extra dollar. To cut back on the cost even more, buy a Purina brand of cat food and you will often get a free litter coupon inside the bag for a dollar off, thus eliminating the extra cost altogether.

Go a step further and buy the litter at a discount store like Wal-Mart or buy it in a larger size at a store like Costco or Sam's Club, and you'll be saving even more money still.Let me also fill you in on a little extra fact that you can use in conjunction with this brand of litter to keep the odors to a minimum. This is a good tip, so pay close attention...scoop the litter box daily! It takes about 30 seconds, it's good for your cats, it's good for your house, and it keeps the job from getting too disgusting by preventing buildup.

I also recommend that you don't fill the box all the way full. Cats will just kick the extra over the side of the box creating an even bigger mess. Also, invest in liners. They're well worth it. To neutralize odors more quickly, especially if you live in a one-story where you can't hide the litter box very well, keep a small amount of litter available in the Tidy Cats container. If you smell a particularly offensive odor, just sprinkle some extra litter on top. This can work like a stench barrier.

There's also the old baking soda method, keep an open box of baking soda nearby to collect some of the stench, the way you use it in a fridge to catch strong food scents. I would highly recommend Tidy Cats litter for Small Spaces and multiple cats. It is well worth the extra dollar, and increases your quality of life.

It may sound silly, but keeping a handle on something like the odor associated with pets can really give you a much more pleasant living space. In this case, there absolutely is a difference between this and the generic brands. You do get what you pay for in this case, and since the cost difference is so minor, you should definitely go for it.
