The Sea of Life

A Modern Sonnet in Shakespearean Style

Charlotte Kuchinsky
My life was not granted for me to choose
To squander away however I please.
It is a gift that I may win or lose.
It can lift me or bend me to my knees.
It's but a brief moment caught in an age;
As recompense for some long lost good deed.
It can be lost within a moment's rage
Before it has a chance to take root or seed.
My choices effect all the threads of time.
Each step leads to a path of no return.
One wrong assessment may compel a crime
That steals away all that for which I yearn.
Only God's light can finally set me free;
Bringing calm to this disquieting sea.
