The Sea of Monsters

Mythological, Action Packed, and Funny Scenes

The Sea of Monsters: the second book to the series Percy Jackson and The Olympians. It was yet another book full of mythological, action packed, and funny scenes. I enjoyed the second book just as much as the first. I enjoyedreading about all the new characters, such as Tyson and that Tantalus guy who replaced Chiron the centaur. It amused me how everything that Tantalus tried to eat or drink just ran away from him because he was being punished. I was surprised that the camp, Camp Half-Blood which was the only safe place for half-bloods, was not attacked more due to its weak and dying magical borders.

The action in this book was just as good, and in some cases better than in the first. I liked the chariot races and all the weapons the riders had gotten a hold of or made. The Hydra battle was pretty cool to because the Hydra just would not die. That ended with Clarisse's cannon blast however, but I found that a good ending because Percy, Annabeth and Tyson got rained on by Hydra guts. The evil creatures that I liked the most had to be Scylla and Charybdis. How they worked together was just awesome. It seemed like there was no way to get past them. After that, when Percy and Annabeth reached Circes island and both of them got transformed was amusing also. Percy became the guinea pig and Annabeth became more girly by wearing a dress and makeup.

The whole deal with Polyphemus the Cyclops was great. They found and rescued Grover from becoming a bride. On top of rescuing him, they found and took the Golden Fleece which was the priority of their little adventure because it was the one and only known thing that could save their camp. Polyphemus fought back in order to try to prevent them from taking the fleece, but he failed, which made me happy because their camp would not be destroyed by monsters. I really liked the one on one battle between Percy and his former friend Luke, who also wanted the fleece, but to resurrect the Titan Kronos back to life. Luke failed though. The camp was saved by the fleece, which in turn brought another character to the story, Thalia the daughter of Zeus.

I finished the second book and liked it just as much as the first book. I knew there would be a third book with a new character and was more excited about reading it than I was about the second. The Sea of Monsters still rocked.
