The Search for Aubrey Sacco, Missing After Hiking in Nepal (Video): Would You Help Get Aubrey Home?

Aubrey Sacco Went Missing in Nepal, Her Family Needs Your Help in the Search for Her

Radell Smith
Paul and Connie Sacco need your help to in their search to find their daughter Aubrey Sacco, who is missing after going hiking in Nepal. Aubrey, 21, was a recent Colorado college graduate when she headed overseas for a five-month jaunt through India, Sri Lanka and eventually Nepal, according to CNN. But the 23-year-old young woman is now missing, presumably in Langtang National Park.

Were you in Nepal in?

If you or anyone you know made the trek to Nepal during the month of April of 2010, even if you aren't sure if you saw Aubrey or not, please contact this writer.

Aubrey may have smiled at you, threw up a hand wave, or greeted you with her typical friendliness if you happened to encounter her around April 20, 2010 in Nepal this year. But if you saw her after that you are one of the people her parents would desperately like to talk to, as Aubrey is now missing and you might inadvertently know something--or have seen something--that could help them locate Aubrey.

Langtang National Park: Were you there earlier this year?

Aubrey was headed to Langtang National Park right before she disappeared for good, so if you or a friend of yours was making a trip to that park while in Nepal in April, you could be an even bigger help, even if you don't think you saw Aubrey.

The Maoist were fairly active in and around Kathmandu during the period Aubrey was in Langtang, and they could have been in the vicinity of Aubrey as she made her way through Langtang as well, on April 22. You may have noticed them if you were there. But it is also possible that Aubrey made an encounter with someone else too. You could maybe share information about that person if you saw them with Aubrey during your time in Nepal.

How you can help

Any American who was in Nepal or Langtang during April of this year is asked to respond to this writer at your earliest convenience. Your recollections of the political climate, influx of tourists, and so many other factors pertaining to Langtang National Park--and the surrounding vicinity--could be crucial in helping Aubrey Sacco's parents, Paul and Connie Sacco, find their missing daughter.

Aubrey is the kind of person to be the first on the volunteer bandwagon, even seeking out volunteer opportunities as she made her way skillfully through foreign lands. Won't you volunteer to share your experiences in Nepal or Langtang if you were there in April, so Aubrey's parents can bring Aubrey back home?

Ingo Schnabel is the director of the Himalayan Rescue Dog Squad in Nepal. He has made a YouTube video of his time in the air with Aubrey's father and brother as they scoured the grounds below, seeking to gain a feel for the land before attempting a foot search.

The video of Aubrey's father and brother gives an idea of the scope of the task that was before this hurting family. The landscape is immense and varied; the possibilities endless in a search for Aubrey.

If you were not in Langtang National Park in Nepal back then, but you are going now; would you consider searching for the missing American hiker Aubrey Sacco as you make your own hiking excursions in Langtang National Park?

My apologies Alison for not responding sooner. Thank you for reading and writing a comment. It is my prayer Aubrey will be located and home again soon as well. To that end, I am available to help the family and Aubrey's friends however I can.

I don't know you, but want to thank you for your efforts. Those of us that know and love our Aubrey are desperate to have her love and light upon our doorsteps again. Every day I think "today will be the day we'll find her. She is fine, has been treated well, and is coming home." That is my mantra.
Many thanks and blessings from Greeley, Colorado.

Should have spell check that before submitting.

  • Was Trekking in April...7/2/2010

I don't know if you want information from me, as I'm already in contact with Aubrey's mother Connie through e-mails about what I experienced trekking from April 26-May 7. But my e-mail is carolle + dave + books (all one word with no spaces between) at yahoo . com.

I have a lot of experience in Nepal and in dealing with Nepalis. I understand the culture and people intimately, while understand much of their language as well as there cultural virtues and vices.

Now, I didn't do the traditional Langtang trek, but started by walking out of Kathmandu and all the way up to the border of China at Rasuwagadhi - which is goosebump-inducingly beautiful.

I'll correct that immediately, of course. I would never want to hurt a family suffering from a missing member. My humblest apologies.

Thank you for this information & your reporting, but please, use Aubrey's name in the present tense, not past...our family is absolutely positive that she is alive! Her parents' & many others' intuition is that strong, so you must realize this...we will keep that faith
& we will not give up on finding her.
