The Search Engine War: Bing and Google

Ariana R. Cherry-Shearer
Bing and Google are both two very efficient popular search engines that help you find what you are looking for on the web. Although both offer similar built-in functions and features, they both have some different aspects when it comes to giving the search results that you want. Their search engines are being used every day all over the web, and becoming very hot tools to use for mobile web browsing too.

The war of the two search engines actually begin on the web at www.Bing-vs-Google.com. Users log onto the this two-way search engine and type in their suggested search term. Once the user types in his term, his results can be previewed both from Google and Bing. With this search engine war, users can actually choose for themselves-which search tool they will decide to prefer.

For example, lets use the term "flowers." When the term "flowers" is typed into the search box, each search engine both display popular flower selling websites from the Internet such as TelaFlora, FTD Flowers and Proflower. Although on the search engine, Bing, in addition to offering results such as flower selling websites, it also offers results to other search terms such as "arranging flowers," and "types of flowers."

When a user wants to use the "map tool" that is available from both search engines, they also have options. If a user wants to find a flower shop their area, it will direct them to the larger cities in his surrounding areas. By using your IP address, Bing automatically detects your area without actually typing in a location. In Google's search engine, if you simply type in "flower shops" without a specific location, results will be from various parts of the United States (or even the world). While both search engines did offer a different way to offer listings of flower shops, they did still offer maps and driving directions to reach your desired destination.

Although Bing's search engine results offer a variety of ways to offer search results to its users, Google still out-beats Bing in the number of extra tools that it makes available to the typical Internet user. Google still has widely popular used tools such as Google Check-out, Google 411, Google Reader, Picasa Web Abums, Translate, Sketch-Up and so much more. When a user chooses the "even more" selection on the homepage of Google, his door has become more than just a search engine. Its a wide variety of services and tools. Within given time and more development, Bing could come around and begin to offer user search engine tools as well though-and hence again-the war will continue to march on...
