The Search for Hanah: Dog Lost in Joplin Tornado

Donna Thacker
On May 22, 2011 a tornado devastated the town of Joplin Mo, destroying buildings, homes and lives. Many people and business owners have started to rebuild their lives that were forever changed by the destruction. Several beloved pets were either killed or lost during the mass confusion. Rescuers came in to help gather up lost animals and tend to their needs. Many of these pets have found their way back home. Hanah is still lost.

The Effort to Bring Hanah Home

Hanah is a 5-year-old white American Bulldog. Hanah has a uniqueness that will make her easily recognizable. Hanah has one brown eye and one hazel eye and she has been spayed. Her family knows that Hanah survived the tornado, because she was spotted twice after the tornado went through.

Hanah's Mom, Kari, is devastated by the loss of Hanah and worries that Hanah is out there somewhere lost and scared. Hanah and her family were huddled in a closet as the tornado approached. When the tornado hit, Hanah was literally ripped from her owner's arms. As soon as the danger was over, the search for Hanah began. Hanah has an entire army looking for her. A facebook page entitled "Bring Hanah Home" has over 9750 followers who leave comments and well wishes for Hanah's safe return home.

The facebook page has reported on other Joplin pets that have been lost and eventually found. The support of the people who are involved is overwhelming. Hanah's army helps to spread flyers wherever they go and there are t shirts that say "Bring Hanah Home" popping up all over. The group has gotten several news stations to report on Hanah.

Strangers Join the Movement to Bring Hanah Home

Sherry Wemple recently moved to Joplin when she got married. She admits that she does not know Hanah's family personally, but she is an animal lover and understands their heartache. Sherry recently went on a trip with her husband and was armed with Hanah flyers. She posted them in every state they stopped in.

Sherry spends time driving around Joplin looking for Hanah. She believes Hanah is alive and well and will come home someday. Hanah may be too scared or disoriented by the destruction of the city to come out of hiding. She may have even been relocated by one of the rescuers that came in to help, but Sherry and Hanah's family believe Hanah is out there somewhere, and they are determined to find her.

Reward Offered for Hanah's Return

The family is so intent on having Hanah home that a $2500.00 reward has been offered for Hanah's return, no questions asked. Hanah's family's biggest concern now is that it is getting colder. The search for Hanah has been intensified as winter fast approaches the Midwest.
