The Search to Save

Who is Saving What Nowadays?

Michele Starkey
We will begin with a quote from Dr. Seuss,

"Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple."

Here is the complicated question:

What words will produce one of the largest search results from Google's search engine?

Note: I also performed the same search of these two little words through Yahoo Answers, AlltheWeb, Bing, AltaVista and several other search engines and they all produced billions of hits. For these purposes, we'll stick with the question and answer posed to Google's search engine.

Results: If a person were to type two little words into Google's search engine, they would receive about 2,610,000,000 results in less than 0.24 seconds.

Would you like to know what two little words could produce such a HUGE return in Google hits and from all the other search engines available on the Internet?

Those two words are: Save The

Save the Children is the first hit to appear but it is quickly followed by everything and anything that you could ever imagine. From animals to minerals, from lifestyles to remote places, it appears that we have transformed ourselves into a global outcry against extinction. People want to save everything but I wonder if there are some things that shouldn't be saved.

Why are we such a world consumed with saving things? Yes, Dr. Seuss was correct - sometimes the questions are very complicated and while the answers may be simple, finding those simple answers is not so simple.

There is within each of us the need and desire to be a part of something bigger than just ourselves. If we can join with others in a cause to Save the Whales or Save the Children or even Save the Planet, we become swept away with the passions of the people who are saving something. We are a world that is searching to save this or that.

Remember that not all things can be saved, not even today because at the end of the day, we must turn the page on today and look forward to tomorrow. And, in the words of another famous quote by Dr. Seuss,

"Don't Cry Because It's Over. Smile Because It Happened."
