Of course I refer to the political map of the US, red representing more conservative states and blue being the less so. But beyond this superficial difference little has changed. This argument isn't about who is supreme, the states or the Federal government, but who will gain control and direction of this nation. Will the Blue win out and take us to socialism? Will conservatism win the long term struggle, returning us to a more "founding" atmosphere of limited government and free enterprise?
I have written on this historical repeat performance before. We have a very similar circumstance to the one that existed in the late 1850's and 1860 that preceded the shots at Ft. Sumter in April, 1861. While the catalyst is different, the sounds are the same in that there are many similarities in today's rhetoric that led to the bloodshed that followed.
Recall the late 1850's. Despite what the schools teach the real trouble was more basic than slavery. The South made an agreement with the northern states to sign onto the Constitution - that slavery, as vile as it was, would be left alone in the Southern states. When the groundswell of distaste rose to a fever pitch in the North the South felt demonized, attacked and cheated in that the agreement the Southern states signed onto in 1790 & 91 was being reneged upon a mere 70 years later. Again, none of this is a validation of the horrid institution of slavery but the history of the whys and hows should not be altered to suit any current day talking points no matter how petulant those that demand such historical revision.
Today we see a similar condition. The states ratified the Constitution and Bill of Rights as written and no one of any ideology has any right to now demand we void the Document, although we can amend it by law, but to listen to the Blue state mentality, they don't want to just amend it; they want to just ignore any part that does not suit them. Within their demanding, the Blue state mentality is using the same rhetoric of hate and accusation as was employed by Northern states in the 1850's.
From the Blue states is a constant din of drum beats that to not agree with them is un-American. To not accept their demands to roll over and allow the change they force is to be small minded, stupid, red neck, hateful and all other manner of accusation. The intelligence, humanity and judgment of Red staters is called into question at nearly every utterance from those who imagine their pipe dream a reality.
The Blue state mentality has no respect for the process. Their intellectual leaders know they have no right to the change they demand yet still they encourage their rank and file to join them in singing the tune. If they wish for the change they scream for, let them vote it into being. The problem with that is they can't get that to pass the public's muster. As I wrote the other day, progressive leaders and mouthpieces are slowly coming around to honesty and admitting socialism is their goal, but will that ever be put on the ballot? Of course not. The radical left knows that's a non-starter, so instead they use the rhetoric of accusing those who don't agree as being hateful, selfish and destructive.
No matter how many times I pose the question "How is it hate or any other pejorative wanting to live exactly as the Constitution specifies?" they never have an answer. Their reply is usually the drum beat of whining accusation beginning anew.
One must wonder if Blue state people have the slightest clue as to where this will lead? Do they truly believe if they belittle us enough we'll give in out of embarrassment? That their name calling and hateful characterizations will lead anyone to "see the light" as I' m sure they would term it? If that's what these people think they are in for one rude awakening and one that I predict will lead to bumps, bruises and multiple abrasions. Folks in the Red states, and I mean of the "Red state mentality" of course, will little tolerate such attacks.
We are not evil for expecting the compact to which we agreed to be in full force and totally adhered to. The Constitution specifies small government, free speech, the right to bear arms and all the rest. There is not one single tenet I will give up without them killing me...not one! It is they who are the practitioners of evil. It is they who demand they "will drag me kicking and screaming" to their ends. Do they have a clue as to just how determined to resist I am my like minded are to this concept? We are committed to it, and by committed, I mean willing to shed our blood to make them respect the agreement they agreed to in 1791.
If they wanna change the agreement then amend it, but short of that they'd be better off spitting in Superman's face. There is a process for amending it and if they can get three quarters of the state legislatures to vote in favor of a proposed amendment, then they will have succeeded.
I have news for them...this nation does not want what they do. We have made that clear over and over again. So they now engage in the demagogic game of accusation and demonizing we who do not want what they want. That is exactly what happened in the 1850's too. But in fairness at least then those who demanded the end to slavery were honest about their end game. Today the average Blue state demagogue is not honest at all. They know they cannot admit they want this nation to be a social democracy. They know that at every turn, when they observe the implementation of their wishes in the rest of the world it has failed miserably.
To tie all these loose ends together, consider this: Hopey change isn't a sound policy. We've seen this before all over the world in the 20th Century. If Germans' had resisted Hitler's promise to fix it all there might never have been a Nazi Germany, 60 million dead in WWII and no Holocaust. If hungry Russians' could have resisted the sophistry of Lenin's Marx based concepts Stalin would not have been able to kill 50 million of his own. Mao wouldn't have been able to kill 70 million Chinese. North Korea and Vietnam never happen. No Cold War and the trillions spent on keeping Marxism at bay. Anyone remember that? Used to be almost every American was dead set against the radical leftist wishes. What the Hell happened to sanity?
Anyone recall the undercover FBI agent who infiltrated the Weather Underground in the 1970's? He testified they advocated 25 million Americans who were hardcore conservatives and would not go along with the hopey change of Marx. Anyone remember the trillions spent to keep Marxism from taking over the world by force as was their first inclination? Anyone remember Kruschev claiming "We will bury you?" Kruschev later clarified his point with "I once said, 'We will bury you,' and I got into trouble with it. Of course we will not bury you with a shovel. Your own working class will bury you." He continued "the proletariat is the undertaker of capitalism." That means the workers will destroy the system, ya know, like we hear the unions trying in Wisconsin, Ohio and such.
While this isn't the late 1850's, the sounds are similar and the voices of change are coming from the Blue state intelligentsia. They demand we do what they want when they know they can't get their desires to become law by lawful means. We've been here before. It's almost like they have no ability to understand history and specifically just how determined the Red state mentality is to stop them.

Post a CommentI truly believe this could happen. Love the street sign!
The blue ids are trying to reestablish slavery the socialist way.
Good piece. This is where we are headed, if not outright hostilities, some kind of regionalization. There could be separate capitals, budgets, tax structures etc., but free trade between the regions and common defense treaties. If one region wants to bomb Libya, it can go ahead but the other can sit it out. But an attack on one would be an attack on another.
this is the beginning of my working vacation:)
