The Second Lives of NFL Players

Where are They Now?

Randy Inman
Ever think of the NFL Football stars you watched as a kid and wonder what they are doing now? Well I do too, so I researched a few to see what is going on with them. Some of the reports of players may be outdated. But I did try to get as much current info as I could find on them. So here is a list of some former NFL players and where they are now.

Joe Cribbs- Running Back Buffalo Bills. Joe (latest I found on him was from 2003) lives in Alabama with his wife and runs Joe Cribbs Associates an advisory company. He works with NFL players on various aspects of their careers.

Joe Ferguson- Buffalo Bills Quarterback- After retiring he coached at the University of Arkansas for 4 years. As of 2002 he was working as a real estate salesman in Rogers Arkansas. In 2005 he was diagnosed with Cancer. I can find no reference to how that turned out but I am fairly sure he didn't pass away.

James Lofton- Wide Receiver for various teams. Since 2002 he has been the receivers coach for the San Diego Chargers.

Art Still- Defensive End- Bills and Chiefs. Art is running ABS Supportive Services, http://www.abssupport.com/ in LibertyMissouri. This company provides support and supplies for various business. I hope the company is doing well Art and his wife Liz had 11 kids!

Jackie Slater- Rams offensive tackle. After 20 years playing in the NFL he entered coaching and is the Co Offensive Line Coach for the Oakland Raiders.

John Stallworth- Wide Receiver Steelers.Http://www.johnstallworth.com John is president and CEO of Madison Research Corporation in HuntsvilleAlabama. He also has a scholarship Foundation and a charity golf tournament.

Warren Moon- Quarterback various teams- Best known for 2 things after retiring. Being the first African American Quarterback voted into the Hall of Fame. And being arrested for assaulting his now former wife Felecia in 1995. He was acquitted of the charges with her help, though they later divorced.

Dick Butkis- Linebacker Chicago Bears- Now is an actor who has been seen in many movies or TV shows. You can see the list at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0124792/

Chuck Muncie- Saints, Chargers and Vikings. Http://www.chuckmuncie.org. Best known for or flashes of greatness then flashes of drug rehab in his career. Now seems to have turned his life around and has started the Chuck Muncie Youth Foundation. They offer medical help and tattoo removal clinics as well as other services for kids.

John Riggins- Running Back Jets and Redskins. Got off to a rocky start in retirement with reports of his drinking issues. But now has his own radio show. Triple X ESPN Radio was launched with Riggins hosting The John Riggins show. Riggins can be heard in the Washington, area weekdays from 4-7pm on 94.3 FM, 92.7 FM & 730 AM, and on the Richmond, based WXGI 950 AM. Also has done some acting including being on The Guiding Light.

Mark Carrier- Defensive Back- Bears. Coached The Arizona Sun Devils Defensive Backs for 2 years. Currently a Defensive Backs coach along with former Cowboy Dennis Thurman, for the Baltimore Ravens.

These are a few old timers I have done some research on. If this article generates some interest, I will do another article to show where other former NFL players and where they are now.

What is former Jet/Bangal/Tampa Bay/Green Bay guard Matt O'dwyer doing now (besides a cheesey cameo in a Vince Vaughn film).

  • Teresa Watson 12/10/2006

Good article! I am always interested in those "where are they now?" stories! As a Redskins fan, it is good to hear that Riggins is doing so well. He also did an episode of "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" last season, and he looked pretty good!
