The Secret of Becoming You

Ralston Heath
The world is a large room for lessons, we are always learning. Failure and mistakes are simply lessons that you learn. Don't feel stupid and doomed forever just because you failed one time doing something. There's always a next time, and practice makes perfect. Keep in mind that you never truly fail until you quit.

We should always remember that there's no such thing as an over night success. Things we do take time to come to fruition. It is always a wonderful feeling to hold and appreciate the things that you have now, realizing that those are some of the things you once wished for. There is a saying that says, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." We are all here to learn our lessons. Our parents, teachers, friends, colleagues, officemates, neighbors, total strangers, and acquaintances, literally anyone at any time can become our teachers.

Be nice to all the people around you, soon you may very well need their help or wisdom. Little things mean a lot to other people. Sometimes, we don't realize that the little things that we do like a pat on the back, telling someone they did good, greeting someone saying "hi" or "hello", or "good day" or telling a co-worker something like "hey, I love your tie!" are simple things that mean so much to other people. When we're being appreciative about beautiful things around us and other people, we also become beautiful to them.

One thing that you should do starting right now is to stop thinking of yourself as a second rate being. Forget the repetitive thought of "If only I was richer... if only I was thinner" and so on. Accepting your true self is the first step to conscious growth. We need to stop comparing ourselves to others, we can not be them, and we can only be our own self. Conscious growth doesn't turn you to be the exact replica of some movie star, its hopes and aims to result in an improved and better YOU.

We all have our insecurities. Nobody is perfect. We always wish we had better things, better features, better body parts, etc. But life needs not to be perfect, for people to be happy about themselves. Improving and loving yourself is not a matter of shouting to the whole world that you are perfect and you are the best. It's the virtue of acceptance and contentment. When we begin to improve ourselves, we then begin to feel contented and happy.

When you're willing to accept change and go through the process of growth and improvement, it doesn't mean that everyone else is. The world is a place where people of different values and attitude hang out. Sometimes, even if you think you and your best friend always like to do the same thing together at the same time, they would most likely decline an invitation for a goal setting session at your place.

To grow spiritually is to search for meaning. Religions that believe in the existence of God suppose that the purpose of the human life is to serve the Creator. Several theories in psychology propose that we ultimately give our own meaning to our lives. Whether we believe that life's meaning is pre-determined or self-directed, to grow in spirit is to realize that we do not merely exist.

Our lives have purpose: This purpose puts all our physical, emotional, and intellectual potentials into use; sustains us during trying times; and gives us something to look forward to; a goal to achieve, a destination to reach. A person without purpose or meaning is like a drifting ship at sea.

Set meaningful goals; you can be what you will to be.
