The main character, Amy, is fifteen and pregnant and after she tells her friends all of the conversations between the three of them are all about her pregnancy and what she is going to do. Ben, Amy's new boyfriend, is determined to lose his virginity and constantly asks his two friends, who are a couple, for advice on his relationship.
Grace and Jack are two very Christian teens who were dating in the first episode, but after Grace's parents give her a purity ring, Jack starts to freak out about remaining a virgin until marriage. After realizing this, Jack calls Adrianne, the school "slut" and goes over to her house and they have sex. After this, Jack and Adrianne are seen kissing by Grace's brother and this causes the two to break up.
Ricky is the boy who got Amy pregnant when they were at band camp together and who is also known to have had sex with a large amount of girls. You learn later on that Ricky was molested by his father which is why he is always looking to sleep with someone different.
Almost all of the major events in the show have to do with sex. Almost all the conversation between the characters are based on sex. The fact that this show is called The Secret Life of the American Teenager, leads people to believe that this is really how teenagers are, which they are not. High school is not all about sex and the people who attend high school do not have sex on the brain every single second of every day. Teenagers do have other things to do then sit and talk about sex over and over again. While the occasional conversation does involve sex, not every single one does.
This show should develop add more events to its plot. The characters could have dilemmas that do not involve sex. Teenagers experience a lot of other types of problems in high school. I don't know for sure but I would say that the goal of most teenagers in high school is not to have sex, but rather succeed in sports, or get good grades, or be involved in other extracurricular activities. Although there are some teenagers whose main focus and goal is to have sex, high school is not at all as it is portrayed in the Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Thank you for sharing!
Being in high school at the moment, i would say that probably half of conversations do revolve around sex.
So maybe Secret Life is a more accurate portrayal of high school today than parents would like to think.
After all, i know plenty of girls who have been pregnant, even one who had a baby at 13, and i live in a very wealthy area with a high school that gets great grades.
Thank you for saying something!! I didn't give the show a chance because I could tell from the commercials that it wasn't going to be realistic at all. From your description it sounds exactly like dozens of other shows out there. The problem with this one is the title. It makes a generalization and stereotypes American teenagers. But of course, teen pregnancy is all the rage now, so of course, more and more shows and movies like this are being eaten up by the masses. 5 star article!!
well im not gonna comment all of the reviews but i will comment this one and it goes for all. i think that everyone 10 and older should watch this show. it teaches kids NOT to have sex!! kids who watch this can realize that there is more to life that just sex and what can happen as a result of sex!! if they dont and they have sex and get pregnant its the parents fault because they didnt teach them any better!! trust me im 13 years old and my mom used to work at a dr office!! you wouldnt believe how many girls my age came in pregnant!! and its all because their parents didnt teach them about sex and they didnt have a guide to teach them!! this show is a guide for teens EVERYWHERE!! so next time you see this show think about it!! because it happens!! and parents of teens, your child probably has a sex life and you just dont know about it!! trust ,me!! like i said! im a teen i know!!
It's too bad that shows often center around sex rather than quality.
My wife watches this one and shares some of your thoughts.

Very well written. Thank you.
