People reported that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were wed on April 30th on the luxurious patio of Mariah's island of Windermere estate after their brief but steamy relationship peaked. Dating for only six-weeks, the couple's marriage was kept a secret from even her closest friends. She creatively slipped family and pals off into a jet after shooting scenes for her new promo of Bye Bye while telling others that the trip was for video scenes. Carey told People, "Only about four people knew we were going down there to get married."

The wedding was simple but elegant. MTV reports that Mariah looked amazing in a stylish gown which faded from off-white to pink. Created by Nile Cmylo, it flaunted her shaped and hugged her curves, accentuating her beauty. Roughly a dozen guests attended their sunset wedding, where they served Maine lobster and Dom Perignon champagne that had been directly flown over to the island, and there are reports of Mariah picking up the wedding cake herself in an effort to keep their plans of marriage hidden. At the last minute, Carey's best friend, Da Brat, threw her a phenomenal bachelorette party, sealing the lid on single life and opening the door to a much anticipated, excited role as Mrs. Cannon.

In a previous issue of People, Cannon said they clicked instantly when Carey cast him as a lover in the video for her new single, "Bye Bye." "From the first time we sat down to discuss the video at the Beverly Hills Hotel, we connected," Cannon said. "We had so much in common spiritually, and we laugh at the same things. I didn't have to put on my Mac Daddy suave mode. I was able to be myself with her. We are both eternally 12 years old." The couple secured a marriage license in Eleuthera, and on May 2, People reported that Bishop Clifford Petty of the National Church of God in Governor's Harbour in Eleuthera confirmed he presided over the proceedings, but did not give a sermon during the ceremony. It was instead Clarence Keaton, Mariah's pastor who performed the ceremony. He flew in flew in from New York to bless their future, saying "The eyes are the window to the soul" as they held hands and stared into each others eyes for a minute to express their love.

They have already expressed their affection in ways different than most though. People have confirmed that tattoos now mark both Mariah and Nick; Mariah sporting a Mrs. Cannon tattoo on her lower back, whereas Nick bears a much larger one of her name spreading across his upper shoulders. They got the tattoos a few weeks before they got married, and even more surprising the tattoos hold a deeper meaning to both Mariah and Nick than the monstrous diamond she sports. Associated Press shows Cannon saying, "To me rings are special and exciting, but tattoos mean more than anything. They're forever and ever. They professed our love."
