Why do people pity themselves? It is amazing how many times self pity stems from a mere lack of observation. An individual will be living under some sort of adverse condition, and instead of taking steps to change it, will pity themselves for what they have to put up with. If one could but realize that they have within their power the means of changing those circumstances, one would actually welcome the existing state of affairs. Pity brings to light the problems that need correcting, and this gives you a base to build on, and with just a little constructive imagination combined with action, it will bring into being a completely satisfying life.
I am sure you have either said or heard someone say; "It is just my luck to have that happen" or "I might have known I would be disappointed"; or "Why do I deserve all of this bad luck?" and so on. These are just a few of the negatives frequently used. When we program our self in such a manner, we will of course bring in to reality that which we focus on. A simple knowledge of cause and effect comes into play; we cause what we want to happen by verbalizing it and focusing on it and giving these words the weight of emotion causing them to vibrate as commands, thus bringing them to life. Quite literally bringing them alive and into our life.
There is a solution, a simple but time consuming way out of pity. First off be glad you are as you are. You are alive, and while there is life there is hope. Look at your pity, and instead of feeling sorry for yourself, see the situation as a giant clue that you have something to do. Yes you are probably cringing right now thinking this means work, and your right; it means just that, you have some work to do. Rejoice and accept your present circumstances, as they are like a foundation on which to build your life.
For example if you have a leaky roof, sitting around and complaining about it will accomplish nothing, but if you investigate, find out where the leak is, then accumulate the materials necessary and then repair the roof; your situation improves and you have less to worry about. This leads us to the next step of this discussion. Now pay attention to this next part as it is important.
Next take all of the negative elements which have been disturbing you and one by one change them to positive. When you catch your self complaining about something, take note of it; write it down, then think of the opposite and write that down. Do you see what you will be doing? You will be developing a series of tasks to accomplish. If you complain that you have the figure of a pear, and then write it down, think of the opposite such as the figure of an hourglass, and now you have a direction in which to focus your energies. Of course this means you will have to expend some effort, but by doing so you will open up new areas of happiness for you to enjoy.
There are two sides to every story, this is a statement often heard by most people; and generally speaking, it is a true statement. Here you must take note that in most cases there an opposite of nearly every condition or situation you can name. If something bothers you, instead of trying to endure and hold a pity party for your self; look for the contrast; look for the condition which would be ideal to you, then, applying the suggestions of this discussion, find the solution and take the action and obtain the improvement you desire.
Hopefully this little discussion has given you much food for thought; see to it that you think about every word of it. When you start to feel pity, instead of expecting sympathy, realize that you have a work list instead, and your life will soon be far more exceptional than you thought it could be. You can be and do what ever you have a will to.
Be Blessed
