The Secret to Quitting Smoking Immediately

Stop Comparing it to a Drug Addiction, Cause it is Not Even Close.

Jeanne Marie Kerns
I have seen it a million times, and I have heard it a million more times. I can't quit smoking because, this and this and this. Well you know what, you can if you just set your mind to it. and stop saying that you can't.

Understand, this is going to be very hard if you have been a smoker as long as I have. You are going to wish you could have that cigarette. You are going to make up scenarios in your head where you can sneak that smoke. You are going to rationalize why you can smoke that cigarette. You are going to do everything possible not to quit, but you will quit if you just QUIT.

Realize

The first thing that you have to do is realize that a $4.00 pack of cigarettes are not as important as your life. Sure, you can get away with smoking your whole life without any problems, but what "IF" you are not as fortunate as others? What "IF" you happen to be one of those people who are affected by smoking cigarettes, and eventually lose your life from it. Realize that you have the complete power to stop IMMEDIATELY with no excuses to hold you back at all.

Excuses

Stop making every excuse possible why you are not quitting. Stress, addiction, blah, blah, and more blah. If I would have been a smoker for a few years, then maybe I would not be able to say this. But I have been a smoker since I was 14 and I will be 40 this year. I have every right and then some to say this. I personally have made every excuse in the book not to quit. Finally I realized that I could not make anymore excuses, there are just too many important things in my life that matter so much more then cigarettes.

Look Around

Take a long, hard look around at your life. Now put that pack of cigarettes on the table next to you and tell me if you can actually choose the cigarettes over seeing your kids grow up or just growing old with that special someone. If you actually have to even think one second about that choice, then it is definitely time to throw those cigarettes away and begin a new, smoke free life. Cigarettes are not something you need, they are just something you are use to.

Addiction

Yes, smoking is an awful addiction, I completely agree with that. It is not an addiction so addictive that you cannot quit immediately though. You cannot compare smoking to cocaine, meth, or heroine addiction like they would want to do. There is no comparison, so get over it. Smoking is like an addiction to caffeine, once you go a few days without it, you body starts to feel better and get over the cravings.

Now that you are mentally capable of the task to quit smoking, take these few pieces of advice to make the transition from smoking to non-smoking a lot less annoying.

Keep Smokers Away

For the first few weeks of your non-smoking journey, keep smokers away from you. If you happen to live with smokers, ask them to go outside while you adjust to not smoking. Same with working, communicate with your fellow workers as to what you are doing and I am sure there would be no problem helping you out.

Hard Candy & Gum

Keep as much hard candy and gum available as you can. Every time you feel that urge, and you will feel that urge, pop a piece of gum or candy in your mouth and find something to do. Do not give into that feeling. It will go away after a few days, I can promise you that.

Eat, Eat and Eat

Whether it be junk food or nutritious food, eat it when you want it. YES you will gain 10 to 15 pounds, who cares. Just eat the cravings away. It is a lot easier to lose a few pounds then to begin the cycle of quitting smoking over and over again.

Last but not least

Drink, Drink and Drink

The more water you drink, the faster you will clean your body out of all that nicotine. So drink as often as you possible can. Trust me, you will feel so much better.
