The Secrets of a Successful Relationship

As goes the popular saying that "it is great to be in love and even greater to be loved in return". All relationships consist of two aspects, the two individuals involved, both of which are equally important for the success of the relationship. Similar to the act of clapping which cannot be performed without the effective use of two hands, for a relationship to sustain there should be two individuals who should be involved with equal commitment and dedication. An abdication by any one individual would deem the relationship as being one sided and this would undoubtedly cause agony and heart-ache to the one who is still involved. Therefore, it is very important to consider some the following thoughts before committing yourself to a relationship:

The relationship you are going to embark upon should allow you to be yourself for that is the way you would be comfortable and happy. There is no way to find out if the other person would reciprocate your feelings so one should be prepared for encountering disappointments and accepting them without loosing emotional control. A successful relationship is based on positive feelings and unquestioning acceptance and so both these aspects should be confirmed before commencement.

One has to realize that no one in this world is perfect so why should one expect one's partner to be so. Success in a relationship would entail that some aspects be overlooked in a bid to maintain the goodwill; but the limit should be decided upon by the partners beforehand so that it doesn't cause any misunderstandings in future. Both individuals involved require their own space and should be able to respect the other's space as well.

Even in a relationship, we are still as much responsible for ourselves as we would have been had we been on our own. A relationship should complement the partners involved and should in no way result in the loss of one's individuality. The best way to love others is to love ourselves first and also to take good care of ourselves for only then will we be able to take care of our partner as well.

A compatible and loving relationship is all that is required to set one on the path to fulfilment but to achieve this faraway dream one must exercise caution and use one's better sense of judgement in order to make the right choice. After all the success of a relationship does effect one in the long run and that is the reason one would be wise to look carefully before leaping.
