The New Sensation on YouTube: Funny Animal Videos and Why Watching is Good for You!

Laughter May Be the Best Medicine After All

The new rage is funny animal videos on YouTube. So far there have been over ten million hits on these types of videos. They include shrimp on treadmills, rabbits fighting chickens and cats jumping face first into a mirror.

So just what is it that's making so many people watch these videos? I decided to find out for myself. So I went to YouTube. I typed in funny animal videos and came up with more results than I knew what to do with. Honestly, many of the videos are really funny. You can find almost any animal you are looking for in these types of videos. I was surprised at the huge assortment of videos available to watch on this subject alone. I discovered videos with a hippo in a bikini, a deer up a tree, and monkeys in glasses, animals that look like people and vice versa. There are of course also many rude and crude displays of animal imagery along with many funny and cute images of our furry friends. While not all of these videos were funny the majority of them were. People are watching these in tandem, for twenty to thirty minutes at a time.

I think that with the way the so called real world is going right now people are looking for a way to escape that reality with laughter and happiness. After all, I have yet to meet anyone who thinks that laughing is a bad thing. Laughing makes us feel good, and apparently it's good for us too!

So to answer the question of what is it that makes us feel so good about laughing, I looked for answers. According to the Women today magazine website, "laughter can enhance out physical and mental health". For those people who are spending time laughing at random silliness, they are doing something good for their health. According to Web MD, laughter has many healing properties.

Research has shown that laughter may actually be the best medicine for some people. It has shown positive results in fighting viruses, bacteria, cancer and even heart disease. It also helps with reducing the production of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline which can cause weight gain. I was also surprised to learn that something as simple as laughter can improve digestion, and speed up respiration and blood circulation. It can also help fight depression. Another amazing fact about laughter according to Web MD is that, laughing heartily 100 times a day gives the same cardio results as working out for 20 minutes! Exercise without the effort for those of us who enjoy laughing.

So before judging those around us who partake in watching these silly videos maybe some of us should give it a try and see what all the rage is about as well as rap some of the benefits of laughter.
