The Seven Deadly Sins According to Dr. Oz: What to Do to Replace Them

We Can All Add a Decade to Our Lives If We Follow These Steps

Shana Dines
According to Dr. OZ. These are the seven deadly sins. He claims that if we all do these 7 things that we can add a decade to our lives.

The first deadly sin is not stretching when you wake up in the morning. You need to stretch your body, which will improve your flexibility and will improve your all over health. It also will help center you for the day. He recommends the yoga stretches. He demonstrated the downward dog and warrior pose. The sun salutation is a perfect way to start out your day. Dr. Oz does yoga everyday.

The the second deadly sin is skipping breakfast. Do not skip breakfast. He outed his wife on national television. He told his audience and a billion other people that his wife skips breakfast. If you skip breakfast you are putting your body in the famine mode. You will eat a lot more during the day if you skip breakfast. His suggestion is a smoothie made with bananas, (which by the way in a previous episode is a very good memory and brain food.) He also has psyllium husks, flax, soy protein, and honey in his morning smoothie. The fiber in the psyllium and flax helps regulate your metabolism throughout the day. If you don't like smoothies, you can have a little peanut butter on whole wheat bread.

The third deadly sin is to be late for work, appointments etc. Don't be late it will stress you out and cause high blood pressure. It also shows disrespect to those that are waiting for you. It is easy to give yourself extra time and you should arrive at least 5 minutes early to appointments. Dr. Oz suggests setting your clocks 5 minutes early. You should forget that you have done this so you won't depend on those extra 5 minutes.

The fourth deadly sin is mindless eating. At 3:00 in the afternoon when you head for the pantry or the vending machine you add extra weight to your body and stress to your liver. It is a good idea to prepackage snacks for youself if you feel the urge to eat. It is actually a good idea to eat smaller meals anyway. If you have little ziplock bags of prepackaged snacks, such as 12 almonds, or 18 small pretzels, or some fruit it is satisfying and good for you.

The fifth deadly sin is becoming a couch potato. You don't want to slow down your metabolism. It is better to do a little exercise instead of sitting and watching television. He demonstrated a couple of squats.Dancing is a good way to keep you from getting overly tired. You can even just do a few twists or deep breathing to invigorate yourself.

The sixth deadly sin is to disconnect from family and friends. Instead of ignoring your friends it is important to talk to each other and have a healthy support system. We are all going through different kinds of changes or challenges. It is also important to surround yourself around positive people. Don't let negative people add to your stress. It is okay to unload on others and to let them unload on you, but make sure that there are positives included in your sharing.

The seventh deadly sin is not having a regular bedtime. It is important to have a planned regular bedtime. It will help you to sleep better. You will avoid insomnia and it is better for your all over health. It is important to try to maintain this on weekends too. We all need at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep.

If we all try to live by these rules we will be a lot healthier. We will have a healthier weight and be healthier physically, mentally and spiritually.

Many people overdue making changes that they can't stick to. If we all make little changes it is easier to live with and become healthier.

Could you send this letter to Dr. Oz? I would send it, and keep writing to him until he answers. I bet that he would help. I am so sorry for what you are going through and for the loss of your sister. It is no wonder that you are depressed. Praying for you Elizabeth. and God bless you Shana

I wish I could ask dr. oz a question, I had gastric bypass surgery and have been a plateau for over 5 months, since sept 8th i've only lost maybe 50lbs...I anm so tired and beyond depressed, since my sisters suicide, I have lost the will for just about everything. I know the things I should do, but some days just to muster up the strength to shower, ( no i'm not dirty ) I just don't do ANYTHING...I've lost the will in everything, I don't want any friends, I hate leaving my apt. I use to just be so active, model, always have a good job, now i'm 42 on social security. Whenever I see a doctor they don't seem to listen, it's sad because if they see a woman cry they can't scribble anti depressant fast enough...which have never worked, and it seems to me that EVERYONE is labled bi polar, I didn't even know what that meant, I honestly thought they were saying ( I slept with bears ) I just know the next 5 years will go by without any change. I just need some positive and not insane solutio

Good list. I often don't have breakfast, but felt the benefit of porridge the other day before going out on my Arctic expedition called the British winter!

Interesting list. I understand the allegory of "deadly sins." I think his suggestions are very important and make for great New Year's resolutions. I can't seem to get the bedtime thing under control.
