The Shed Cafe: Edom, Texas Offers Art and Great Food
The Shed Cafe Gives Home Cooking a Run for It's Money
I recently attended the annual Edom Festival of the Arts and decided to have lunch at a place I was told had great food and was women owned and ran. I love a good meal and I always try to support businesses that are owned by other women. After spending a wonderful morning enjoying what I feel is one of the best art festivals in East Texas, I headed over to The Shed Café.
Due to the high number of people visiting Edom for the art festival, the cafe had a long line of customers waiting to get seated for lunch. The Shed Café seemed to hold over 150 people, and it was pretty packed. I toiled around in the front part of The Shed Cafe which acts as a souvenir shop complete with all things Texas as well as old fashioned candies for sale.
Once seated, the waitress came to greet me and my friend and answer any questions we had. She told us that The Shed Café is usually busy on the weekends but that this particular crowd size was due to the art festival. She said that it is a pretty popular eatery in the area and that often times the motorcycle enthusiasts who drive threw the quaint town will stop at The Shed Café for breakfast, lunch and dinner. She made sure that we knew that the restaurant is known for their variety of delicious homemade pies. The whole pies start at $12.99.
My friend and I both ordered the Home-style Fried Chicken with white meat and chose baked beans, buttered corn and mashed potatoes with gravy as our side dishes. The lunch special was $7.95 but did not include a drink. I ordered the sweet tea and we were brought free homemade buns and cornbread to the table. The bread was soft, warm and tasty.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and found the fried chicken to be better than most I have had because the coating was a light tempura style. The chicken was moist and delicious! The baked beans had a nice sweet taste and the corn was buttery and very good to eat. The mashed potatoes were good, but nothing special. A bit of seasoning may have helped the potatoes as they were a bit bland.
I was very satisfied with my meal overall because it tasted like home cooking. The only problem was that I was too stuffed to try the pie, though I was told it was delicious. Some of the other meals offered at The Shed Café are meatloaf, BBQ brisket, fried catfish, hamburgers, chicken fried steak and a variety of salads. Prices range from $3.25 to $9.00 for a meal.
If you are an art lover, Edom is a great town to visit. Though only 200 people actually live in Edom, it is full of charming shops selling their art, jewelry and gifts. It's worth a visit to Edom and certainly worth stopping in at The Shed Café for a home cooked style meal. The Shed Café is open Monday-Sunday from 7 AM to 8 PM. Their number is 903-852-7791 or you can see their website at theshedcafe.com.
