The Shia LaBeouf Movie Formula

Robert Dougherty
Shia LaBeouf has quickly turned into a big young star over the last two years. LaBeouf started out on the Disney channel, but unlike the other people on Disney, LaBeouf has been in movies that aren't for fangirls and young teens. However, despite LaBeouf's rise in stardom, the movies he has been in are starting to look pretty much the same. Most famous actors soon develop a traditional formula for themselves, but LaBeouf is getting a jump start on that. Despite a few differences in LaBeouf's films, they are pretty much the same movie when looked at closely. Here is the Shia LaBeouf formula, so that fans can know what to expect from LaBeouf in the next several years.

LaBeouf quasi bad-boy character

LaBeouf is too young to really portray a disturbed, bad boy youngster, but he somehow keeps trying to convince moviegoers that there is some darkness there.

Disturbia: Kale, an angry young voyeur under house arrest

Surf's Up: Cody Maverick, cocky young penguin surfer

Transformers: Sam, un-bad boy nerd

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Mutt Williams, 50's motorcycle wild child

Eagle Eye: Jerry Shaw, slacker youngster with twin brother issues and facial hair

LaBeouf impossible love interest

Most actors, especially the less than attractive one, put themselves in movies with hot women who would otherwise never be all over them. LaBeouf has already mastered that talent quite well.

Disturbia: Hot neighbor Sarah Roemer

Surf's Up: Hot penguin lifeguard voiced by Zooey Deschanel

Transformers: Hot classmate Megan Fox

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Indiana Jones and his less hot fatherly love.

Eagle Eye: Hot mom Michelle Monaghan

LaBeouf on the run

LaBeouf is indeed the next Tom Cruise, in that he always has to run away and be chased by something- usually in CGI.

Disturbia: David Morse

Surf's Up: Evil penguin surf champ

Transformers: Killer robots

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Soviets and aliens

Eagle Eye: Evil super computer

LaBeouf logic defying plot points

Wherever there is something that doesn't make much sense, LaBeouf is often there and running away from it.

Disturbia: Serial killer next door

Surf's Up: Penguins surfing in hot weather

Transformers: Transforming giant robots

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Aliens, swinging on vines with CGI monkeys

Eagle Eye: The entire third act.

LaBeouf mentor

No matter how much LaBeouf has accomplished, he usually has much more to learn from older and wiser people that need to bail him out

Disturbia: Trinity- I mean the mother played by Carrie Anne Moss

Surf's Up: The Dude- I mean Jeff Bridges's Big Z

Transformers: Optimus Prime

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Indy and Marion

Eagle Eye: Michelle Monaghan shows LaBeouf how to be a better man when the evil computer takes a break.

LaBeouf rips off

Thanks to his unoriginal directors and writers, LaBeouf is making a habit of acting out better moments from better movies rather than making his own.

Disturbia: Rear Window

Surf's Up: Documentary movies

Transformers: 80's cartoon series and Michael Bay's whole career

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: All previous Indiana Jones movies, National Treasure

Eagle Eye: 2001, I Robot

Steven Spielberg's involvement

Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Harrison Ford now have company as the top dog in Spielberg's acting kennel.

Disturbia: None

Surf's Up: None

Transformers: Executive producer

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Director

Eagle Eye: Executive producer

LaBeouf movie legacy

LaBeouf himself has become a star, but his movies have not fared too much better as they follow the LaBeouf formula.

Disturbia: Star making film

Surf's Up: First animated documentary

Transformers: Least offensive Michael Bay film since his last one

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: The rape of Indiana Jones, according to South Park.

Eagle Eye: Most outlandish film of September.
