The Shorebird Restaurant and Bar

Tropical Drink Melting in Your Hand

When I lived on Oahu, one of my favorite restaurants to frequent was in Waikiki. The Shorebird Restaurant And Bar is located in the Outrigger Reef Hotel. The atmosphere there is amazing. You can sit inside the restaurant, or at a table closer to the outside, over looking the beautiful ocean and the night sky. As your over looking the menu, you can hear the live music playing in the background, and the sizzle of the giant grill at the back.
A live musician strums his guitar in the distance as you look over your menu.

Some of the more popular choices on the menu include Top Sirloin, Center Cut Pork chops, Fillet Mignon, and the Island favorite fish Mahi Mahi.

Now comes the fun part. Once you pick your entrée, the serves bring the food out to you raw, and you go over to the giant grill and season your meats and grill them yourself! It is really very cool. Some may say "What is the point of going out to eat if you have to cook it yourself?" Good point. However, it is the atmosphere that makes it so much fun. There is something to be said about standing next to someone, holding a tropical drink and chatting about the beautiful surroundings while you grill up a juicy fillet mignon. There are professional chefs standing nearbye to give you help if you tips on grilling if you want it. When you order your meat, the server asks you how you prefer you meat done. They will let you know how long to cook on each side for medium, medium rare and well done.

The prices are decent for the great quality of food and atmosphere.
The salad bar is amazing as well. Fresh bread, a variety of vegetables, pineapple chunks, pasta salad, as well as some traditional Hawaiian offerings.

Top the meal off with a brownie sundae and you will happily collapse on the beach afterwords to close your eyes and listen to the crashing of the waves. This is a great place to take pictures and make wonderful memories. It would be a nice atmosphere to propose to someone you loved as well. With the picturesque Hawaiian water and sands and a great view of Diamond Head, you can't go wrong. This restaurant is a must when visiting the island of Oahu. Splash in the water, play in the sand and enjoy a nice elegant meal!
