The Significance of 11:11pm

For many, even for those who don't normally care about superstitions, 11:11pm is an unusual time. For one thing, 11:11 is the most noticeable time on digital clocks.

Although the exact origins of 11:11pm as a superstition or good luck sign are unknown, one could conclude that it is a fairly new superstition-one that emerged after the advent of digital timepieces.

It is believed that making a wish at 11:11pm will cause that wish to come true by the next day at 11:11am. Don't ask me why; that's just how the superstition goes. I consider this no different from finding a four-leafed clover in an empty parking lot or suddenly noticing a brilliant afternoon rainbow behind you. This is simply another superstition, another good luck sign, for our digital age.

Have any of my wishes come true as a result of wishing for something at precisely 11:11pm? Well, some have, and some haven't. I personally suspect that 11:11 is so powerful to us because it allows us to take a moment out of our evenings to reflect on whatever it is we want most in life-a loving relationship, a comfortable career, an exciting new challenge-and since it only lasts for one minute, the time commitment for this superstition is conveniently short.

So the next time you notice 11:11 on your watch or on your TV's clock, take a moment to pause and take a deep breath. Close your eyes and visualize whatever it is you want most-wish for it to come into your life, and feel how it would feel to have that very thing as a part of your life by the next morning at 11:11am.

Worst case scenario: You've wasted a minute. Best case scenario: Well, you know.

Fun article. And I'd never heard of the 11:11 superstition.
