The Silver-Tongued Devil

Lisa R. Strong
You told me that you loved me;
In my loneliness, I was deceived;
You have spent the last two years;
Making an ass out of me;
Promises that you have made;
You did not intend to keep;
Yet I followed along;
Like a frightened little lost sheep;
I couldn't see the gleam;
In your lying eyes;
Nor the smoke and mirrors;
You placed in my pathways;
I am too far away;
To catch you in your lies;
You finally tripped yourself;
On a rope that I left for you;
I hope that you are happy;
With your so-called new love;
She seems to suit you well;
Suicidal and possessive;
Jealous of your close friends;
She caught you in her web;
You will never break free;
You deserve each other;
Don't come running back to me;
When things go south;
(I know that they will);
All you will find;
Is static and deafening silence;
I will not be your fool twice;
I am no longer listening.

He had promised to visit her this summer. He was secretly dating someone else, and he became engaged. He never bothered to tell her....someone else did.

    You're getting a lot of practice with taking the other person's point of view and turning it into a poem. GLAD it wasn't YOU!

    Wonderful writing! I really hope your friend will want to look her next boyfriend in the eye before getting too attached.
