The Sims 3, the highly popular simulation video game from EA games, has a whole new world of adventure available for your Sims to explore: Barnacle Bay! Officially released on September 16th after weeks of heavy promotion, Barnacle Bay features 18 Pirate and beach themed exclusive items, new Sims to interactive with, and community lots for your Sims to enjoy. But is the bundle of Pirate goodies worth the cost?

The package of content is available in the EA store for 1,650 SimPoints (approximate value of $16.50). For the cost, Sims 3 players gain a new neighborhood: Barnacle Bay. Full of sunny beaches, Pirate-oriented community lots and décor, Barnacle Bay is one of the most highly anticipated min-expansions released to-date for The Sims 3. Pirate motifs remain one of the most popular themes among user-created content, and many websites with custom downloads are inundated with Pirate hats, peg legs and fake parrots.

Sims 3 players may also be interested in the newest item set released in the official store: Buccaneer's Bounty. This 16-item set compliments Barnacle Bay perfectly, offering even more scallywag-appropriate items. A Kraken fountain, decorative ship's wheel, clam shell planter and even a ship's cannon are all included in the set, which is available for a modest 700 SimPoints ($7.00 retail value). Four outfits are also included in the set, two for each gender, which have an old world charm and seafarer's rugged appeal.

These mini-expansions are the latest method EA has developed to keep Sims 3 players hooked during the unfortunate downtime between true expansions. The highly anticipated Sims 3: Late Night expansion pack is scheduled for release on October 26th, 2010; "Late Night," which has strong similarities to the Sims 2 expansion "Night Life," seems to signal the resurrection-and hopefully, the improvement-of Sims vampires.

Sims 3 players seeking additional Pirate-themed goodies to compliment Barnacle Bay and Buccaneer's Bounty should consider some of the highly popular custom content websites. The Sims Resource offers a vast array of intricate, highly popular downloadable bonus content; a monthly subscription fee gives access to both the limited free content and the huge library of member exclusives. Whether you're looking for Pirate wench attire, another decorative ship's wheel or a stuffed parrot, Sims 3 players and the EA store have you covered for all your scallywag needs!
