The Sims Resource Product Review

TSR is a Great Place to Go for Downloads for Your Sims

Liz Copeland
The Sims Resource is an online community that hosts the content of many designers of objects for The Sims and Sims 2. While it is a subscription site, meaning that you have to pay a monthly fee for full access, on average about 3% of their total downloads are free to anyone as long as they register. The downloads rotate on a regular basis, so you never know what content will be available to you as a free user, which means that you can get some really interesting stuff even if you're not a paying member.

The Sims Resource is unique, in that it has a lot of designers so you're pretty much guaranteed to find something you like. There is so much content that you may never get through it all. They also have a rating system for their content designers so you can figure out where the best downloads are and they feature their designers and showcase their work.

The work is as varied as it is plentiful. Some of my best objects came from the talented designers at TSR. They even work off each others' creations. If one person makes a really good mesh, other people will recolor it. It doesn't even take a lot of work for me to find recolors. If I see a mesh I want, I can have it search for recolors and they're right there for me to download.

TSR (The Sims Resource) also has many other interesting features. You can see what the upcoming downloads will be and when they will be available. You can also join the community and talk to others.

They make downloading and installation easy with their wizard, which you can download on their site. If you're not into the wizard, you can download objects alone, sets, or add up to 200 things to a download basket and download them all at once. I really enjoy having the option to download the best way for my needs.

Best of all, though, is their search engine. I can look at Sims 2 or The Sims objects, I can look for only items of a certain type, like beds or toddler clothes. I can even streamline it further by telling the search engine which expansions I have so that it only brings me objects that are compatible with my version of Sims 2.

When it comes to downloads for my Sims, TSR is always the first place I go. Not only are they the most likely to have what I need, but they always manage to surprise me with things I'd never even seen. I would recommend TSR to anyone who's looking for a place that's easy to navigate and has a lot of content. For the subscription fee, it's well worth it. Go check them out and tell me what you think!

In the interests of the community, this article should either be taken down, or edited HEAVILY, including but not limited to a disclaimer as to the crap TSR pulls. Currently, there are more than several FREE sites under attack from IPs used by TSR. LivingSims was attacked because the owner/editor refused to make a deal with TSR (and thus, "Simspiration" was born...it's a load of crap and anything good is copied straight from LivingSims and just changed around a bit.)

I'm serious, be careful. I had my personal info shared by Thomas and company and there is little I could do about it as I had to communicate with someone in Sweden and got no where. My full name, email address, and other information is floating around out there thanks to Thomas and Atwa. They even confess to doing it! It's disgusting.

That 'review' needs to be updated, and quickly. TSR is nothing but a morallous cash-sucking machine who particularly prays on the naivety of young people. Redo your review please as TSR are causing harm in the simming community. Do you really want to agree with their fraudulent activities?

Thanks anonymous. Yep, this is an old, old article and doesn't reflect my current opinion on TSR. I haven't been a paying customer at TSR since just before I heard the really shady rumblings at the booty, thank goodness. They were good, definitely...back in the day. Too bad they went and messed things up. I am glad to see though that people are still interested in Sims 2. I might write some more articles to help people out. I love sims :)

    Liz -
I think most of us realize that your initial write up was old and might not be your current opinion. :)

Some of this used to be true. Back when the original Sims was still going strong and Sims 2 was a horizon in the simming future, TSR was a site. They gave hosting to people who people wanted to create but did not have their own sites, they had a good and wide selection of downloads and tutorials. It *was* a good site to be a part of. When it went pay site (claiming it was to cover the costs of bandwidth and storage -- not so Thomas could build a second home with subscriber money (he did that this year)) I willingly paid for a membership because, at the time, TSR had the stuff I wanted.

Now, flash forward to these final days for Sims 2, the Sims 3 is almost here... and TSR has gotten so full of themselves that they've ruined whatever good they used to have. They share paypal info, have reveled in the destruction of other fansites, hacked into other sites and communities... all because *gasp* people don't like them anymore. We don't like what they've become. Neither should t

Are you talking about the tsr that shared private infomation, block people with active subscriptions and steal peoples content so they can sell it as there own?

  • Lola4/1/2009

Liz, you forgot how TSR shares all your private information like address, phone number, full name...and how they exploit things like your PayPal accounts!
And if you're unsatisfied with your paid membership, nope, you sure don't get a refund. Pretty much an email saying it was your fault you're SOL is your parting gift.
Don't bother with reflexsims as their forum is now gone. It's blackpearlsims now.
You can thank Thoma$$ for that one.

You'd be wise to- a lot of the FA's and SA's and submitters you like since you last wrote have probably bailed ship and many FA's and SA's and submitters at TSR X-post their stuff on free sites elsewhere- Openhouse Jack, MSBarrows, PhoenixPhaerie to name a few. TSR is bad news not matter how you look at it I'd also go over there and make sure that your username, password, and other info is not the same as it is for others sites- they are claiming only the Admin and FA accounts were hacked in response to theft and other accusations but lets be real- that is not where the money is- or the credit card number since admin and FA's don't pay for their accounts- its just as free as a non -paying members

  • Liz4/1/2009

You know what, I might just do that...write an article about the freesites. I haven't played sims in a while because I've been too busy, but I srsly miss playing :D

I'll check out the reflex sims forum. I'm out of town right now (hence not being logged in). It's been so long since all that stuff started going down I'd have to do some research to write another article.

I am not, as the Sims Community would call 'em, a "Pirate," but I wholeheartedly support the efforts of paysitesmustbedestroyed.org in trying to bring an end to TSR.

TSR has changed since its early days. They load files with Trojans and malware, refuse to give refunds to paying subscribers who they -suspect- are Pirates, nor do they give refunds to people who cancel their subscription. They help in closing down competitor sites (read about the Reflexforum, please) that offer quality downloads for free, for the simple fact that forums like the Reflex one -were- competitors.
They have also been rumored to hack accounts, delete other user's custom content, and to generally cause fighting within the Sims Community.

    I suggest an update, ma'am.
