It is not often that the world finds a confident- five foot tall, two hundred pound woman as proud as Beth Ditto. As lead singer of the three person band Gossip, Ditto has found worldwide success as an outspoken rock star and open lesbian, fashion icon.

Signed in 2007 to Music With A Twist (part of the Sony Label Group family). The band found mainstream success after touring on the True Colors Tour 2007 with Cyndi Lauper and Margaret Cho. Gossip formed ten years ago in Washington's punk rock scene. While there have been no music awards for the band yet, Beth Ditto is receiving her own recognition. Glamour magazine named her International Artist of the Year in 2008.

An export of Arkansas, Ditto claims growing up she was not confident at all. Beth tells MSN music, "I was around a lot of women who hated their bodies and hated themselves..." She obviously now has the confidence most women (of any size) wish they had. Ditto posed naked for the cover of NME magazine in 2007 and again in 2009 for the UK's Love magazine. She has also posed nude for On Our Backs magazine, a magazine for lesbian women. Naked or dressed you can also find her on the covers of countless other magazines.

Ditto openly admitted to NME magazine what she thought about Paris Hilton crying when going to jail, "It was so funny. I was laughing until I was crying." When Perez Hilton debuted her Love cover on his site over 500 comments were posted. Mainly the comments argued back and forth between, "Work it girl! Don't let the bastards get you down" and "gross!!!!..." An overwhelming majority of the comments in favor and support of Ditto.

Beth can also add designer to her resume. She has her own line of plus sized clothes influenced from the 1980's at Evans in the UK. The collection offers everything from polka dot leggings to a one piece jump suit in sizes from 14 to 32.

Whether or not you love or hate Beth Ditto is for you to decide. I do not think she would care either way. Accepting that Beth Ditto is an influence on culture, fashion, and even punk rock can not be denied.
