The Small Joys

Donna Cavanagh
The opening of this grand new supermarket
Truly set my heart afire
A fresh bakery, sushi and samples to taste
This store had everything I could ever desire

Okay, I might be exaggerating a bit
Even though this was the store of all stores
But my heart did jump and I felt a sense of joy
The moment I walked through those magical glass doors

I share this story for a reason
We need to acknowledge how small joys make us feel
For the small joys teach us to accept greater joys
And they teach us that happiness is possible and real

It does not matter what makes us smile
A good book, a sitcom, a dog's wet kiss
We must appreciate the little things that bring us joy
For it is in these small wonders that we find our true bliss

Oh I love this! I could totally see myself getting so excited about something so small...in fact, I actually do get that excited over small things...and what's strange is that a lot of times, I tend to be a little more ecstatic over the small, insignificant things than I am over the big important things. I can totally identify with this poem :)

It's important to celebrate the little things of life instead of always waiting on the major things. Nice, Donna.

When I enter my grandchildrens world, they find joy in the simplest and smallest things on earth. I caterpillar crawing, a butterfly landing on their nose, a kittens purring... Oh how much those of us in our adult world miss, for overlooking the simple, we look to hard at the complex. Is that what you are saying Donna? You're spot on. Well done. : - )
