The Smartest Fast-Food Meals

Matt Remley
With all the fast food restaurants out there these days, it can be hard for serious dieters to fill their appetite, not to mention watch their weight. McDonald's, Burger King, and other such fast good giants claim to have low-fat meals, or serve salads to their customers, but can we really trust them? Over the past few years, one by one fast food restaurants have been revealing the facts about their menu's, and the truth is always scary. Maybe it's because we're all thinking healthier, or maybe it's just some sort of fad, but it seems like everyone these days has dieting on the brain, so there for restaurants are forced to cater to dieters by creating special menu items with low-carb or calories for example.

What are the best restaurants for dieters and what are the best menu items? Without a doubt the single healthiest restaurant is Subway, surely all of you have seen the commercials with low-carb sandwiches for pretty reasonable prices. It's pretty hard to believe that the second-largest fast-food franchise in the world could actually be healthy for you, even having several types of subs with under six grams of fat.

If your looking for the least calories, then Subway's Veggie Delite sandwich's, salads, and warps are the thing for you. Though, of course if you prefer something meaty, then I recommend Mini Subs, which only have around three grams of fat and around one-hundred and eighty calories. Before leaving home, It may be a good idea to check Subway's Nutrition page on the company's website, which goes into detail about the nutrition of every item on the menu.

Imagine this, your driving down the highway, hungry, and all you can find is a McDonalds. Fear not, if one knows what they're doing, he or she can turn a diet nightmare into a much healthier alternative. Firstly, don't be afraid to ask questions, about portion size and nutrition facts if able. Though it would be a good idea to check out the companies website for the nutrition facts before even leaving home.

Second, even if you order a salad, make sure everything about it is healthy, force yourself to throw away any fatty salad dressings if need be. If ordering a type of sandwich, at least request that for example the restaurant doesn't put mayonnaise or cheese on your sandwich of choice. Soda, is also something to look out for. Instead of ordering a diet soda which will still pack on the calories, purchase fat-free instant kool aid packs or something of the sort before going to the restaurant and simple mix it into water and drink up.

Simple things like that will keep you from breaking your diet, and your wallet. When asked if you would like to super-size it, or order a full meal, say no and tell yourself your going to keep your diet strong no matter how hard the temptation may be. Treat fast-food has a sort of special event that is only in town every now and then. Remember, the most important thing is to do your research, know your facts, and stay faithful to your diet.
