The Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport Semi-automatic Rifle
Offers a Very Affordable Way to Learn to Handle and AR-15 in the True Platform
This was my first AR-15 rifle that I owned and did not just shoot someone else's. I really was interested in getting an AR-15 high capacity semi-automatic rifle, but previously most have been well over $800 for something that offers quality and price in the AR-15 platform. I had thought of getting an Ak-47 or AK-74 since you can get a really good one for less than $400 if you look hard enough. The AK platform 7.62 or 5.45 ammunition is also often cheaper than the .223 and 5.56 that the AR-15 shoots. Smith & Wesson allowed me to get a great gun at a good price.
The Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .223/5.56 caliber long rifle. It has a magazine capacity of 30 rounds and comes with one plastic magazine. The barrel is 16 inches with a 1 in 8 (5 R rifling) twist. Mine has a flash hider on it, but not all of them come with those as some states do not allow flash hiders on a rifle. The fiber reinforced polymer stock is adjustable to six positions for different size shooters. The M&P 15 Sport has a six position stock. Depending on how hard you look you can find a deal on these. I paid $555 online for mine and had it shipped to my federal firearms dealer (they charge $20 typically), so it cost me $575 total. I have seen them online for as low as $525 and as much as $750 in stores. The $750 is a rip off I think, but that was the cheapest AR-15 the store had. Smith & Wesson's suggested retail is only $709, but with the demand I am sure there will be some price hikes especially with Barack Hussein Obama not understanding the constitution and the Second Amendment in particular.
Smith & Wesson obviously made this rifle to fill the niche of people who want AR-15, but can't afford the $900 or more that you will often pay for a good one. They were probably losing a lot of customers to people who were buying AK pattern rifles since they are cheaper. The rifle is still pretty light at 6.5 lbs. the trigger pull is standard for the Smith & Wesson M&P15 line. I would estimate it between 7-8lbs. The sites are really accurate easy to use. It has a front and rear adjustable sites and not a carry handle site like most M4 platform AR-15 riles. I accessorized mine with a flashlight, laser, red-dot, and target scope. I don't believe there is much kick to the rifle. If you have never shot .223 before you might notice, but if you can shoot a 9mm pistol you should be able to handle it. It is not anything like shooting a 12 gauge shotgun though. I have found rapid firing the gun you will then see some kick until you get used to it.
I think this is a really nice rifle and a great way to get into AR-15 platform rifles. We do live in a pretty sick society and I believe gun ownership and knowing how to shoot is very important for any patriot who loves this country. We are being invaded everyday by illegal aliens who are destroying our country and our government continues to encourage this. This is a great rifle to have in case the crap hits the fan or the dead start walking like in the movies. I doubt the dead will walk, but it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
