FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CHICAGO (December 2007)-One of Chicago's most renowned neighborhood barbeque joints, The Smoke Daddy, has announced the retirement of its hall of fame 'Lil Red Smoker, and will welcome its new, state-of-the-art smoker with an honorary barbeque celebration 8 p.m. to midnight, December 19.
Although The Smoke Daddy opened in 1994, 'Lil Red has been smoking meats and vegetables with the finest hickory, apple and cherry wood for the last 26 years. The new smoker, from Ole Hickory Pits, is six feet tall and nine feet wide has rotisserie racks that allow the meat to cook evenly and accurately. The management team of The Smoke Daddy had to cut a sizable hole in the restaurant's wall just to fit the new smoker, which holds three times as much meat as 'Lil Red including 60 full spare ribs, 90 baby back ribs, 50 whole chickens, 135 half chickens and 30 turkeys.
"We've had a serious increase in catering demand over the last couple of years," says co-owner Josh Rutherford, "The new smoker, along with our newly expanded kitchen, will help us meet that demand."
Friends, employees and patrons of The Smoke Daddy are encouraged to wear red on December 19 and be the first to see what the new smoker has to offer. Among the favorites on The Smoke Daddy's regular menu are the Smoke Daddy Rib Sampler, with spare ribs, baby back ribs and rib tips, plus two side dishes ($21.95) and the Pulled Pork Sandwich with homemade cole slaw ($8.50).
Thanks to Alliance Bakery, guests at the celebration will enjoy complimentary red velvet cake to honor 'Lil Red. Also, Miller High Life will be specially priced at $1.75 per bottle.
The Smoke Daddy offers live music at no extra charge, seven days per week. Entertaining for 'Lil Red's retirement party is guitarist Brandon Harvey with a special guest appearance by singer/songwriter, Brad Peterson.
Just in time for the holidays, The Smoke Daddy is taking orders for Smoked Turkey and Homemade Stuffing through December 21. Each turkey is smoked for three to four hours in apple, cherry and hickory woods, giving it a wonderful flavor. The stuffing is $1.50 per person. The turkeys range in weight from 15-20 pounds and are $5 per pound. Customers must place an order at (773) 772-6656 by December 21. The last day to pick up turkeys is Sunday, December 23 as The Smoke Daddy is closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
The Smoke Daddy is located at 1804 W. Division St. (773) 772-MOJO in Chicago's eclectic Wicker Park neighborhood. The Smoke Daddy is open Sunday through Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Thursday through Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. for dine-in and carryout orders. Lunch delivery is available for any orders more than $50. Dinner delivery is available 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily. The Smoke Daddy also offers a special catering menu for parties and events. Guests enjoy free, live music every evening at no extra charge. Visit www.thesmokedaddy.com for more information.
