When I tried to go back inside, the wind held the door open while the blowing snow circled around me, and I thought, "What it..."
The Snow Sprite
A winter storm blew in one night -
Strange flurries in the air,
Not often seen in Southern climes
And thus all the more fair.
So to the window I was drawn
To see the sparkling sight
And there dancing upon my lawn
I saw a winter sprite.
The swirling sylph assumed a shape
Of this world and beyond
A glimmering youth dancing to
The cold wind's mournful song.
I quickly slipped out my back door
A better glimpse to see,
And soon the swirling snow carried
The winter sprite to me.
He twirled in his mad dervish dance
Of insubstantial form
And offered me his cold embrace
In search of something warm.
I turned away to step inside
And tried to close the door
But found the weirding winter wind
Blew harder than before.
The traitor door stood open wide,
Held by an unseen force.
The biting winter wind blew in,
A beast with no remorse.
The snow sprite danced around me
Binding me in icy chains,
Drawing away the human warmth
From my frigid remains.
So if upon a winter night
You gaze upon your lawn
And see me dancing in the wind--
Pull your curtains drawn.
Do not venture outside to see
This bleak enchanted sight,
Or you may find yourself ensnared
By me, the cold snow sprite.

Post a CommentHey, I really enjoyed the evolution of your transformation and how the story starts so happy and then hits with a darker side of magic. It reminds me of the Grimm tales that don't often end happy!
